To go to the NFL or stay?

Pros: $$$$$,fame, not getting a career ending injury, meeting all of the pros you idolize

Cons: Moving to an unknown city, leaving friends, leaving behind teamates and fans, Trying for that one last NC is gone, leaving to early and not getting picked higher in the draft, walking into a NFL atmosphere has to be a little intimadating, you might not make it in the NFL,

There are many I forgot on both sides pro and con and feel free to add your own but I think it comes down to what motivates these great athletes. For instance, I think PM stayed to win it all and beat Fla. and he does not seem attention hungry. Others cant wait till the spotlight is on them. I admire PM for staying and his commitment to UT but at the same time if Mech leaves I can see why and could not blame him. Put yourself in PM and Meches shoes, what would you do and why?

Moses is not a top 15 DE and like Vol in the Atl said he is projecting players who are staying in school or haven't declared yet. Looks like a garbage site to me.

Those are two different situations entirely. Peyton Manning was fortunate enough to come from a priveledged background with an ex-NFL QB for a Dad. There was really no urgency to turn pro get paid.

Meachem's economic situation is different and he has a child.

Also, if I were Peyton Manning I probably would look up Hatvol's address so I could go take a dump on his front porch.

Can you not also get a career ending injury in the NFL? If he spends his signing bonus the way alot do, then gets injured, he loses everything anyway. So, get the degree if the high draft is absent. Atleast you'll know you were worth more than running routes. Also, if this thread doesn't die on its own, please help it out.

Those are basically reasons why Lineart should have gone a year early... Lost the national championship, dropped about 10 picks, went from being in California to being in Arizona...

Agree. Jake Long said he's gonna stay, and I don't think Quentin Moses, Reggie Nelson and Patrick Wills could be drafted that early. But anyway, Meachem won't get drafted in the first round either.

seriously, though, if i were capable of making the NFL, it would be hard to not go, especially if i was going to be a 1st round pick.

being a tn fan, i wish we could hold on to all the jr's, but realistically speaking, i don't blame them at all. If you're that good...go for it.

From te Tennesseean today:

TAMPA, Fla. – Tennessee junior receiver Robert Meachem admitted that he's soaking it all in this week as the Vols go through their bowl practices.

This could be his last go-around with his teammates and coaches if he decides to turn pro.

"I can't lie to you and tell you it's not in the back of my mind," Meachem said. "There are days when you say, 'Should I go, or should I stay?' You play that role in your head.

"You don't really take out time to think about it because you keep yourself busy so you don't have to think about it."

The deadline for undercla$$men to declare for the NFL draft is Jan. 15.

Receivers coach Trooper Taylor said they would sit down with all the information after the bowl game and make the best decision for Meachem, who set Tennessee's single-season record with 1,265 receiving yards this year.

Taylor said the Vols would collect grades and evaluations from eight NFL teams.

"We'll make an educated decision and not make a decision based on what an agent or some scout may have said," Taylor said. "If it's a first-round grade where he can go in the first 15 picks, then he needs to go. If it's not, he needs to come back."

Meachem said some agents were trying to call him, but he changed his cell phone number.

The person he'll listen to the most is God.

"I'm going to leave it up to him," Meachem said. "If he tells me to come back, I'll come back. If he tells me to go, I'll go."

I don't know? Is he the one that cried when he slipped to the third round?

Is Swain really that slow? I mean an OT that is 6'5", 300 lbs. can't be almost as fast, can he? I think it is fun to check out these mock drafts and see what Scouts think about players but there were very few small college guys and the Big I Can't Count conference seemed to be well represented. On the positive side is maybe Meach will only look at this draft and be back. Swain and Smith were great this year but if Meach comes back and has these fast freshmen for other teams to worry about his numbers could really be special.

This would appear to suggest there is a strong chance that he comes back for one more year.

You wouldn't! But he cried! Loudly! Along with Washington!

Care to prove it, or are we just supposed to believe it because YOU say so?

I know the Witten family. They were disapointed that he dropped, but "crying" isn't what anyone that has a knowledge of the situation would call it. I think both players said they wanted to prove teams that had passed on them wrong, but just about every player drafted 2- the end of the draft and some free agents say the same thing. Witten I think has proven himself. Kelley has not.

WITTEN has! Washington never really had a chance! As far as the rest, ask your husband CPF he would remember!

I don't need to ask Phil about Witten, I know how the situation went down. But thanks for showing your jealously. It's comical to me.
