To all who want Butch gone

Lol...so many clueless people. CPC? Yea he is leaving Seattle. Kelly? Staying out and if he came back it would be Oregon. Gruden? Shut up. Fleck? You hate CBJ you will want to kill this guy.

Yeah lets hire one of the worst coaches in the NFL. A guy who hasnt had a winning season since 2008. A guy that has 6 winning seasons in 20 years. Another NFL loser? No thanks.

Fisher coaches Florida State, which, last I checked, wasn't in the NFL

Id take briles in a heartbeat..

Imagine if you had a daughter that went to Baylor University that was in the exact same situation and Briles tried to cover it up after he knew it happened? Would you be concerned or even worried for that matter? You might think he's a good coach which he is but goodness, hiring someone like that speaks true volume about this program. There's more coaches out there to choose from than a lying crook.

I thought he meant Jeff Fisher. My bad.

Jeff Fisher came to mind first for me too. That's not quite as ludicrous as Pete Carroll coming to UT. The guy is a super bowl winning coach in a fantastic city to live in, but he's gonna close up shop and head to Knoxville.

For all those saying Chris Pederson, he's not leaving the Washington area. He has a sick child who's doctors are in Seattle.

I came back from my first visit to Seattle last night. Was there just a couple days on business. To say the least, I see why people love to live there.

The rest of those questions have some other questions that need to be answered first.

1. How much support do I have from the $ backing this?
2. How much control can be given toward a new coach to run his program the way he sees fit? And he sinks or swims with those decisions

I want to know that before I make too may calls.

If Im the AD and I know I want to fire Jones Im "targeting" his replacement and know where I stand before I pull the trigger.

Pretty sure the OP wasn't asking what information would we need before making a decision.

He's already indicated he is capable of doing that by firing Jancek at the end of last season.

What's interesting is that the buddy everybody wanted fired earlier in the year (DeBord) seemed to have the offense playing OK later in the year, albeit against bad defenses. It is very hard to fire DeBord now considering Tennessee scored 49, 63, and 34 points in our last 3 conference games.

It is the defense and Shoop, who everybody loved or at least was excited about early in the year, that became atrocious as the season went on.

Agreed. And it was the defense that was the most gutted by injuries.

Not taking sides here in this thread. Not looking for a debate on whether or not he should be fired.

If you were the AD and fired Butch today:

1. Who is the first coach you target?
1. What other coaches would you target?
2. Of those you target, who do you think you'd have the best chance of hiring?

I think another important question is "Who was Tennessee's head coach when you started following the Vols?"

So you want a guy who went 2-6, or a guy who couldn't win big at LSU, or a guy who just got beat by Kentucky, or a guy who covers up rape. It all makes sense now.

I know I'm gonna come across as biased, but what Kelly is doing in the NFL is vastly different than the college game. He would win big with the players we've had the past couple years.

Not defending Art Briles, but what would say about Butch trying to cover for AJ Johnson? B/c many on here want a coach to stay who borderline did that.

Because that's fiction. No borderline about it. Whatever you want to say about Butch as a HC, he toed the line to the other side on player discipline. You got accused? You sat until it was resolved. Didn't matter to plaintiffs and their attorneys. Imagine what they could do with a coach that has documented accounts of trying to sway victims from filing charges. Of recruiting transfers with previous charges?

You are ready to fire a coach for going 8-4 and you want to hire Jeff Fisher? He is a career 8-8 coach...yeah sounds good

Mentioning Jeff Fisher is incredible

1 - He's an NFL coach
2 - He hasn't had a winning season in 6 years (not counting this season, which is sure to be another losing season)

How that man still has an NFL head coaching job is beyond me

True, thats also why threads like these go the way they do. You can't honestly say either way without those answers. It was more about shooting down every name that was posted.
