To all who want Butch gone

Whittingham would certainly tell you to F off. Hell would freeze over before he left Utah or the West Coast.

I think I've read somewhere something like this, I believe he is a mormon?

Never know though, you throw 5 million at a guy he might just change his mind.

So there are internal disagreements about which big name guys people want, so you end up with a mid-tier guy? You can't decide between a Ferrari and a Lambo, so you buy an Infiniti? Makes no sense.

Seems like one of the factions that supports a big name guy would just win out.

In a way thats exactly what happened last time.

UT needs a unifying figure at the AD position.

Jimbo Fisher was interested in the LSU job, but talks stalled when his asking price was $6.5 million. I would take him in a heartbeat. 77-17 in 7 seasons, and a national championship winner. He would do incredible things with a QB like Jarrett Guarantano, and the weapons we have on offense. Recruits like a mad man too.

I wouldn't be thrilled about hiring Jimbo Fisher at all. I see little reason to believe he can consistently win when he can't just overwhelm his opponents with talent.

TN will never be able to get the hottest name in coaching. The AD is going have to actually work to find the next guy, but that's why they get paid a million a year.

This is a very true statement due the current leadership at the top of UT administration. This is what needs to change. If it doesn't, we continue down this path over and over.

Yes, he is a Mormon.

Bronco Mendenhall did leave BYU for Virginia though. One of the most bizarre coaching career moves I can recall. I assume they threw more money at him, but I cannot imagine it being all that much more than what BYU was paying him.

But that doesn't just make any sense.

If an organization has their mind made up to buy either a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, but there is one faction that wants the Ferrari and another that wants the Lambo, one of those factions will just win out in a power struggle. That's just how this works. The other faction will be pissed off, but you still end up with a top tier car in the end. The end result is never ending up with a run of the mill car. It just makes no sense.

Personally, I think there are a lot of top coaches that simply don't see Tennessee as attractive of a job as a lot of our fans do. Perhaps they should see it as being more attractive, but I don't think they do.

The tradition/brand/facilities are fantastic, but it isn't the easiest place to recruit.

Wait. You want to fire a coach for underachieving just to hire a coach who was FIRED for underachieving? 😂

Never change VolNation

Seriously. And you can cross Art Briles off of any potential coach list. This school would hire Johnny Majors before they hired Art Briles.

Yes, lets fire an 8-4 coach and replace him with a 5-7 coach.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (Southeastern Conference) (2009–present)

2009 Mississippi State 5–7 3–5 T–4th (Western)

2010 Mississippi State 9–4 4–4 5th (Western) W Gator Coaches 17 AP 15

2011 Mississippi State 7–6 2–6 5th (Western) W Music City

2012 Mississippi State 8–5 4–4 4th (Western) L Gator

2013 Mississippi State 7–6 3–5 T–5th (Western) W Liberty

2014 Mississippi State 10–3 6–2 2nd (Western) L Orange† Coaches 12 AP 11

2015 Mississippi State 9–4 4–4 5th (Western) W Belk

2016 Mississippi State 5–7 3–5 T–5th (Western)

Mississippi State: 60–42 29–35
Total: 60–42

He's been in the hardest division in college football at the equivalent of Vanderbilt, and somehow had them at #1 for a month. He beat Florida, and has never lost to Will Muschamp or Vanderbilt - so yeah, I'd be for it.

Also, he's not a cheesy dork.

He is instantly better than any other coach in the East, why would you not be happy with him? I believe he would also put together an excellent staff with SEC experience.

1. Gary Patterson
2. Kyle Wittingham, Troy Calhoun, P.J. Fleck, Charlie Strong, Chris Pederson, Larry Fedora, Dan Mullin, Willie Taggart, David Shaw, Derek Mason, Les Miles
3. Could probably get all but Patterson and Pederson and Shaw.

If it were between Briles, Kiffin, or Petrino, id take Derek Dooley.

Might not be as many wins, but we'd stand a better chance of keeping them.

Mullen really should have left Mississippi State after that Orange Bowl. I'm sure he had offers. Getting to an Orange Bowl is even beyond what can be considered the pinnacle for that program.

I consider about anyone an upgrade from Butch Jones, so yeah - Les Miles would be awesome. At least he'd coach balls to the wall and not like a confused little girl like Butch.

Im not saying it makes sense.
Very little that has gone on up there for awhile now has made sense. The biggest reason why I don't enter these discussions with that as the starting point. I think UTs best chance at changing that is on their doorstep.

I think the division and lack of cohesion has made it less attractive. Everything that you need to be successful is here. All you need is the right coach. Jones sold early playing time (along with the shinning things that everyone else good has) to a couple of top 5 classes before he ever did anything of note here. He just doesn't have the clout as a coach to continue that after early playing time is not on the table anymore..

Have you seen Miles game and time management? He did not the get the nickname of "The Mad Hatter" for nothing.

by no means thinking of Mullen as a "homerun", but he's a huge upgrade from Butch and yeah, I'd much rather go to an Orange bowl than the Music City bowl.

oh yeah, he's insane. But he's a better recruiter than Butch, and he wouldn't embarrass or rub us the wrong way with his cheesy PC shenanigans.
