No, me either. On the other hand.....

if I knew...absolutely knew, that a 6-6 record, or worse, would get CPF canned.

Tough call. Do you sacrifice one season for the long term good of the program?

Personally, I would. The longer he stays at the helm, the farther off course the ship gets. And the longer it takes to get back.

go vols.
Thats why if your too get rid of a coach you don't wait until the end of the year. You sacrifice your recruiting for that year. Just puts you further behind the curve. Makes me laugh when these people say go too the games and support the coaches and team blah, blah. Its like the old saying goes. If you keep buying it. They'll keep selling it to you.

Look, if it were up to me, Fulmer and the whole staff would have had to take a Greyhound home from Pasadena.

So that instead of getting back to work immediately, they'd waste time that they could use to review film and put fixes in place. The logic is astounding. After Labor Day, they need as much time to work as they can get.

Name the last college head coach you can think of that got fired before the regular season ended.
Jack Crowe was fired from his head coaching position at Arkansas after a season opening loss to the Citadel in 1992..

I remember that. They made Joe Kines the interim head coach and brought in Danny Ford to as a coordinator. It was really sad watching Kines trying to coach knowing that it was Danny Ford's job.

On November 15, 1999, two days after the Tigers lost to unranked Houston in Tiger Stadium, LSU chancellor Mark Emmert fired DiNardo with one game remaining in the season. DiNardo was given the option to coach the game against Arkansas (the Battle for the Golden Boot), but DiNardo declined. Instead, offensive line coach Hal Hunter was named interim coach, leading LSU to a 35-10 victory over the Razorbacks.
Nick Saban was named as DiNardo's replacement on November 30, 1999, and guided the Tigers to the 2001 SEC Championship with many of DiNardo's recruits in the starting lineup.

Tough call my ass. Go root for bama.

If your loyalty to the Vols extends to unwavering support of a head coach who is clearly "out of his league".....

If you lack the fortitude to stand up and say what a growing percentage of Vol fans are thinking.....

Or if you simply refuse to realize that UT has become a second-tier SEC team, and a non-factor on the national level.....

...then I would expect you to say exactly what you said.

I am, and remain, a Vol fan. My love for the Vols extends beyond whoever happens to be their head coach. There was UT football before Phil Fulmer, and there will be UT football after Phil Fulmer. I'll still be a Vol fan.

I won't however, be a Fulmer fan. He should have listened to Vicky when she begged him to retire after the '98 season.

He has lived to regret that decision. Unfortunately, so have a lot of UT fans. Me included.

Yes, it's a tough call. I place the program ahead of the coach, and I am of the opinion that UT football would be better in the long term with a completely new coaching staff.

I won't "root for Bama", nor will I be surprised when they tear us a new one in October.

I think this is probably one of the worst threads I have ever seen on this site. For people to say that they would like us to lose a game so we could fire the coach and claim to be a fan of the University of Tennessee is total garbage. Not for one second do you think about the fact that our coach has done a helluva lot more than anyone on this board for the University that I love and some of you supposedly love. I understand everyone's frustration w/ last week, we all have every right to be critical, I am still in shock from the game, but to say some stupid s##t like "I hope we lose" is pathetic and anyone who agrees w/ that sort of statement should maybe question if they are a true fan of our team and if they really care about the 18 to 22 year old kids that go out there and give there all each weekend.

The way UT played labor day would have been an embarassment to a high school football team much less the SEC. And furthermore the only reason phil holds his head high would be because he robbed the program of another upteen million dollars for DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
