To all the Milton haters or even those concerned

So if we just don't talk about Milton's lack of fundamental QB skills on display against Bowling Green, it will be like it didn't actually occur?
Yeah. I told myself after the Pruitt debacle I would never just ignore warning signs again. I think people mix criticism with hate, and have learned on this board, when I’m critical (even though I’m mostly optimistic) people quickly label me a nega. We can be critical but also remain hopeful.

I am blown away than anybody would suggest that we should have scored 60 points when every position on both sides of the line was up for grabs going into the season plus, we have a 100% new coaching staff.

Let’s all be tremendously grateful for a victory for come end of the year, it’s the Ws that count, not the points scored. Go Vols
Etsu could have beat BG. Smh. Its not like we were playing someone with a pulse. Respectively when you get PAID to take an ass whipping you should recieve one. That is all this game was ever going to be.

Just curious, with every position and coach being brand new, what gave us the right to say that we have a pulse? We’ve been horrible for 20 years

Football is still a game of athletes. Chizik, Malzhan. Sometimes sh1t coaches win games because of athletes. Butch rings the bell pretty good. Heupel has been good about developing and I believe he is a great offensive coach. Time will tell if he can win in the SEC. No reason to believe he can't as of yet.

One completion in the second half.
I'm guessing we'll need more than one in the second half against Pitt.

You don't think they don't get on here and looks at this stuff or know someone who does and tells them this crap. after only one game. Here’s some statistics for you to consider:

Tee Martin’s first start versus Syracuse in 1998

9/26 for 143 yards

Peyton Manning’s first start versus Washington State

7-14 for 79 yards.

At 1:29:05 in the video below, you can see Manning overthrow a deep pass, which is the same sin you are already giving up on Joe Milton III over.

I say all this not to suggest that Milton is the next Tee Martin or Peyton Manning but instead merely to suggest that the overreaction to a couple of overthrows by some in our fan base is a bit premature.

You mean the Syracuse team that had Donavan McNabb? Are you friggin serious? Good lord man, just stop. This was Bowling Green, a school up until a few years ago I thought was located in Kentucky.

Manning’s and Martin’s performances were underwhelming as well and were worthy of criticism, which I’m sure was given. I know OP is saying there is hope for Milton, and he may improve, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be criticized. Weak argument, and doesn’t justify a crappie performance or refute the ire from fans.

You mean it's not? Wow, learn something new every day.

It was Tee Martin’s 3rd year when he started against Syracuse. Granted, Milton did have a few starts at Michigan, but maybe he was coached up well there. I think all of the hand wringing is a bit premature.
Tee was decent, but lets face facts. The 98 defense was legendary good. Plus Tee had better WRs than Manning. Price and Cedric Wilson actually did good in the NFL, unlike Kent and Nash..

Plus Tee had Travis Henry and Jamal Lewis (for a couple games).. plus Shawn Bryson.

Tee wasn't great in 1999.. js.

I hope Milton walks on water going forward. He wasn't good vs BGSU. I'm not writing him off. I've argued with those using a bad game to try to claim Bailey should be the starter. OTOH, those trying to excuse him especially considering his history at Michigan and even going back to HS are just as bad or worse. He has a history of losing himself and going cold like he did last week. That's not new and it is reason for concern.

The simple fact is that what he did last Thursday was not good enough to win games. He must do better or he must be replaced. Just that simple.

Milton has been playing for years in college. Even with electroshock therapy his bad habits are not going to change.

Still, I hope he leads us to a victory.

Go VOLS!!!
This. My favorite is that even the great Nick Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe or whomever his first year argument.

Had HB been starting, and ended with same numbers I’m sure there would be a whole lot of slack given as well as a fair amount of excuses. It’s beyond ridicules. Now that being said I think all 3 need to get a look before SEC ball but I’m not the coach.

Don’t know if anyone heard Ainge today but he said If Joe could stand there and hold the ball..why not look for someone to come open.He had protection. Also one of the deep balls the receiver should have headed to the corner away from the safety and Joe wouldn’t have had to throw it in the river.

You are definitely forgetting, those were not the stats of a QB with major D1 starting experience. I will cheer for him when he is on the field, but unless his flaws are fixed l, he is not the quarterback we need. With or without the howitzer arm.

I am pulling for Milton and the Vols. However, my worries have nothing to do with overthrows, it has everything to do with him standing flat-footed in a clean pocket for 3 seconds and then taking a sack. PLEASE, THROW IT AWAY!

It’s not about statistics. It’s about watching him and seeing very clearly that he can’t see the field. I want nothing more than for him to light it up but after what I saw, which fits what Michigan fans complained about, I have no faith that all of the sudden he’s going to have a feel for the position. I hope like hell that he proves me wrong but I don’t see it.

Agree with your post, but I don't know if I'd say that Milton has "major" starting experience. He had attempted 152 passes in his career heading into the BG game. Of that total, 51 of those came in one game. Looking at his stats, he didn't have any meaningful appearances before last season, and his thumb may have been a factor in some of those games.

Milton isn't the seasoned veteran some are trying to make him out to be. And he wasn't here in the spring. I believe that's another thing that plays against him. I think there's still plenty of time for him to respond to coaching and improve. It starts this weekend.

He's riled up in a full on bout of 'first season coach-worship'. You aren't going to get any objectivity from him, just hyperbole and blind faith.
We have seen where that has gotten us. JM definitely didn't look like the answer but I'm gonna wait a few games before saying he sucks. Hopefully the coaches here can coach him up 🤷‍♂️
