and this is why people it is hard to commit to tennessee I love tennessee football but if I had a son I wouldn't dare let him commit to tennessee right now with the way some of you react it's crazy bad mouthing young kids the way all do shame on ya'll. You don't think they don't get on here and looks at this stuff or know someone who does and tells them this crap. Look at the OTHER MESSAGE BOARDS what they are saying look at pitts there saying it's going to be a good say, we got a good team it's mostly all good things and all we got is neg crap to say we have the best and worst fan base in the country!
What ? Have you read the recruiting forum. Besides any QB that we are recruiting likes his chances

Calling people "Milton haters" just because they pointed out his poor play against a terrible BG team is quite a leap. This team could definitely win 8 games this season with solid QB play, so it's frustrating to see Milton play poorly in what should have been a stat padding game. The bright spot was his play in the first quarter before he got locked in on trying to hit a deep shot, so I'm optimistic that Heupel can get him to play smarter for all four quarters against Pitt. I don't hate Milton and would love to see him play great, but we've all seen a physically talented QB struggle on the field game after game without any clear improvement and don't want to see that again. If Milton plays the same way against Pitt, then there's little doubt that it will be a loss. He's got to take a big step forward and there's no hate involved saying that.

The difference is Milton has experience. I know it’s a new scheme he’s learning here but I figured we would’ve atleast seen an improvement on the same mistakes he made at Michigan. Not a Milton hater btw, I hope he improves and succeeds.
I don't understand the concept of "you must hate Milton if you don't think he's a good QB." Some people choose to look through rose colored glasses, others see reality. That's not saying dude won't improve, I have NO way of knowing that, hopefully he does.

It was Tee Martin’s 3rd year when he started against Syracuse. Granted, Milton did have a few starts at Michigan, but maybe he was coached up well there. I think all of the hand wringing is a bit premature.

2021 Bowling Green =/=1998 Syracuse

Not even in the same universe in terms of talent and competition.

This doesn't hold up. Everyone is basing this off what BG did a year ago. I have watched as many college football games as I possibly could over the last 4 days. In week 1, BG was a far cry from the worst looking football team that I saw. I don't know how their season will turn out....
Thanks for pointing that out, it's been tickling the back of my brain, too.

BGSU were a decent-looking team Thursday night. Sure, we beat them by 30+ points, and sure, they're smaller and slower than us. But so are most teams in their home conference (the MAC). They might actually have a decent season this year.

Their next opponent, South Alabama, was 4-7 last year, and is in the Sun Belt (weakest of all the G5). Murray State is Div I-aa. Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), and Akron are all peers, and none lit it up last season, either.

Last year was a tremendously odd year, the Covid year. So really can't tell a lot from that.

All we know with some confidence is that three of BGSU's 2021 opponents, Minnesota, Buffalo, and Toledo, look to be major challenges.

This team could reasonably end up doing as well as 8-4 this season.

They're certainly not the 128th best team in FBS. They may end up being one of the better G5 programs this year. Will be interesting to see.

Not hating…..I have my eyes open!
Don’t compare statistics.
No touch.
Accuracy issues down the field.
Slow to make decisions and hangs on to the ball to long.
Same issues he had a Michigan.
….and this was against BG.
D coordinators from the SEC will load the box to stop the run and defend the screen plays and see if this QB can beat them down the field.

Massage boards have zero impact on recruiting. Losing and constant coach turnover on the other hand.....
That's not true. We know it's not true, because we've heard from several family members (moms, uncles, brothers) of players here. And for every one who lets us know they're here, there are probably several others remaining silent but checking the fan base out.

Simple math: our attitudes color the views of these family members, and they influence the recruits in their decisions.

If we provide a toxic environment here, that could cause a family member (esp. a mom or dad) to steer a recruit away.

Not saying it has, I certainly have no proof it has, only saying it seems logical and quite possible.

SO, you don't think UT left 21 on the field? Oh and AUBURN'S QB------20-22.
I think we left more than 21 on the field honestly. I had hoped for a better offensive performance, particularly from the passing game. But, I saw many positives to take away from the game as well. I did not expect us to look like a finished product either. We have major room for improvement, yet still won by 32 points. Everyone was clamoring for Matt Campbell to be our coach and his #7 ranked team narrowly beat an FCS school in week 1(16-10 over Northern Iowa). That's with (supposedly) one of the best quarterbacks and running backs in the country.

I don't think we have to say anything to Heupel. I think he knows he is in deep sh1t when we start conference play. Any sound coach would. I think he will score points and he will find ways to make that happen. Just doubtful its with Milton all year.

So I'll register you as one of the folks who know QBs better than Josh Heupel. Got you down, man.

Humility is a lost virtue these days. The ability to say to yourself, "you know what, maybe there is something this fella knows that I don't," and then sit back and try to learn from him. Rather than immediately question and counter and accuse.

One of the first lessons I learned as a young cadet was, before you can be a good leader, you have to understand how to be a good follower. Humility is a big part of that lesson. Unfortunately, it seems not to be taught much these days.

We need fewer arm chair experts, and more humble fans, I guess.

Lookit, this is not the MFing Army. We are not here to give and take orders. We are here to talk Tennessee football. If you do not want to talk about the first game, that is your choice, but you got no call telling other folks not to talk about it. That is the purpose of this forum on this web site.

Add: Please do not take this as an endorsement of continual grousings and exaggerated criticisms of our players and coaches. I said before the game that Milton will make good plays and bad plays. The ratio of good to bad is important, and we as fans are well apt to look at it.

He's riled up in a full on bout of 'first season coach-worship'. You aren't going to get any objectivity from him, just hyperbole and blind faith.

Look for South Alabama to light out up through the air this year. Jake Bentley (former SC gamecock) is their QB, and they have some pretty good receivers. Their run game is non-existent though.

If I had a son who hoped to play for a college team, I would hope he had the mental fortitude to overlook what a bunch of strangers on an internet message board said. The opposing fans in the stadium during games sure aren't going to be throwing roses and chanting love poems.
