To All the Empty Head Neyland Fans

Dishonesty! your not worth my time to type of response.....what a bunch of .........this is. Because I disagree, I am dishonest......great, just when I thought it couldn't get worse.......you show up.

Honesty displays itself on the field of play. Sure CBJ has done a lot of good things for UT's football program. However he hasn't done what the fans want most and that is win consistently. He talks a big game like he understands tradition of Tennessee football but he doesn't deliver. All the roster are all his players now and it's obvious we as a program are heading in the opposite direction that us fans want to go. I applaud your effort for consistently standing behind and supporting UT's HC. He's never coached at this level in his career and fortunately for him he was given a chance. He should be thankful for that alone.
Butch Jones could coach the Vols for 10 more years and I seriously doubt that we'd ever win our division. This past week while playing UK he should have went for a 2 pt. conversion IMO considering the score at that time. Also the team lacks confidence and is very undisciplined which are reflections of the HC. I'm not a basher by any means but UT's football coach is simply out of his league and repeatedly demonstrates such more and more often as time goes on when after 5 yrs. you'd expect mistakes to be made less often. You are aware that our OL is getting thin again and they gave up 7 sacks against UK. I'm not gonna continue with a list of things that a coach in his 5th year after getting raises and extensions should be on top of and he isn't. In case it's about $$$$'s and UT admin. follows your lead the university is gonna lose major bucks. UT fans are the most loyal as any in the nation and the coach should not have even been here to start this season and the only reason he is is because we were changing AD's.

If Neyland empties there may actually be an appropriate sized area to sit.

I haven't gone to Neyland in almost two full seasons now.

Last time I went I got stuck between two pigs. Each weighed probably 400+ easily.

Wasn't the first time it happened.

Decided then to just watch at home.

#emptyneylandtomakeroomforobesity

That sucks, but don't let anyone ruin your experience. I take up a lot of room and if I get stuck like that I just go stand at the top of the bottom section.

You probably don't go to games any way and consider yourself a fan because you wore orange once.
You probably kneel during the National Anthem and call the police when something goes bump in the night and don't pay taxes.

You probably don't know this song,

Here's to old Tennessee, Never we'll Sever.
Pledging our Loyalty for ever and ever.
Backing our football team, never to falter.
CHEER AND FIGHT WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT, FOR TENNEESSEE!

You probably don't understand the words in bold.

Wow, I really hope this is satire. Are you aware that they could be considering keeping Butch Jones because attendance hasn't dropped and the apparent acceptance of mediocrity? Because of empty heads, your words not mine, blindly go to games and spend their money without the apparent clue of how their actions directly influence the decisions of the athletic department.

Wow, just wow.

Wow, so scared scared of change you resort to what you think are insults. Fans aren't hurting the team, butch Jones is.

Wrong fans have a lot to do what's going on on that field. Butch isn't doing an overall good job but he's a best interim coach we have right now and they need support

Why don't you let people decide how they want to spend their own money, stfu and quit telling people how to feel.

I'm not going to boycott Neyland but I'm not going to tell someone else they shouldn't do so. It's their money, it's their right and has nothing to do with the kids. I wish you butch kiss a$$'s would quit trying to spin it that way. You're all getting ready to find out just how good of a guy Butch Jones is...

Hey Einstein, where does he specifically tell anyone what 'they shouldn't do' in his post?

I think you don't know the song...well the words are right, but they're in the wrong order.

Here's to old Tennessee
Never we'll sever
We pledge our loyalty
Forever and ever
Backing our football team
Faltering never
Cheer and fight with all of your might
For Tennessee.

Yeah.

I am missing the part in here where it talks about backing Butch Jones or any of these other over hyped, overpaid millionaires that milk these schools for whatever they can get, collect their golden parachutes, then move on to the next cult of personality.

I think we should be supportive of the players, however the coach maybe not so much. You can only have so many chances until it is realized, it isn't getting better.

Well, the consumer has every right to stop paying, or watching, or supporting... so I generally don't think there is a problem here. College sports especially football has become a big business, its less about support a school and more about supporting a big business.

Some schools can't even fill up a 10,000 seat stadium for games - nobody has any obligation to pay for it, or support it.... maybe all this big business should go away and the student activity should return.

I think where I pull back is attacking the players so viciously and there is a difference between saying some isn't that great and saying they are a crappy person.

I see nothing wrong with fans not showing up - heck many sports are not supported by fans at all.

Liked and what a thoughtful and great post! I too have a hard time with the CBJ bashing because this man took over a dumpster fire and turned it around.

Jones turned the program around

I see that a lot

I dont think its as true as people want to believe anymore

Its his 5th year, we are staring in the face literally the worst record that we have EVER had and are competing for last in the SEC. Not even Derek Dooley could manage that.

See, there you go, discount a counter argument, we should all strive to be like you, only see one side of the equation only YOUR side.
I saw your side. You either have somehow convinced yourself in spite of the last 5 years that Jones is on the verge of becoming a much better coach than he's ever been by overcoming some fatal flaws.... or you simply do not care if UT competes for and wins championships.

The only thing going wrong here is that you believe in a singled minded process of we speak louder than you, so, we are right and you are wrong. I have every right to have my opinion, and you don't have a right to tell me I don't. I do not see this situation like you........period.
You have every right to your opinion. But if you are going to spew stuff like the post I responded to then don't be surprised when someone opposes you.

You have a right to your opinion. You do not have a right to a "safe space" where no one can say you are wrong.

I believe in the ideology of America.....whether you do or not,
Do you? If so then why do you have such a problem with people who freely express themselves with their feet and billfold? There's not many things a whole lot more American than that.

I have a God given right to disagree with anyone I want.........because, I can.
:lolabove: But apparently no one has a right to disagree with your disagreement, right?

This whole thing of we vs them in the UT Fan base, is so wrong it's hard to describe to anyone reasonable person.
True. So come on out of the darkness and into the light.

Jones isn't a bad man. He has flaws but most of us do. He cares deeply and gave everything he had. He should be honored for that and personally I think some don't show that honor. But he has limits as a football coach. Everyone has limits. You and me included. Unfortunately, Jones' limits are well below the level he needs to be to compete for championships at UT. Five years have proven that.

So why don't you unite with the rest of us in the expectation that UT will have a HC that is as strong or stronger in the things Jones does well... who can also put a great product on the field?

Not dodging any responsibility for my participation is the madness, but dude..........those of you that want Butch gone are yelling so loud the message is lost in your objections to anyone that disagree......you just sound like a ragging lunatic.
I'm not above correction. Which of my posts do that... and does your post that I originally responded to not do EXACTLY what you are accusing others of?

Not saying Butch has not made mistakes........but every coach before him has too.
This is not an honest argument. You go from "everyone makes mistakes" directly to the notion that because everyone does Jones' mistakes and shortcomings should be overlooked. What you suggest is the equivalent of saying that no one is a perfect student therefore we should pass a kid with a 60% average. There's a difference between the B student who makes mistakes and the F student that makes mistakes... there's a difference between a SEC caliber coach... and Butch Jones.

He's had 5 years to produce. Most top tier programs expect to see more than Jones has shown within 3.

CPF squandered more opportunities with a better roster than Kiffen, Dooley, and Jones......and that is a fact.

I don't disagree... and that has no merit as an excuse to lower the bar for Jones. Also, CPF happened to have some pretty outstanding years too. That's something the other 3 haven't done. Fulmer bought himself some capital that rightly created a little more forgiveness. Jones hasn't done that... not even remotely close.

College football is entertainment. People go to and watch the games for entertainment. If the team looses and play poorly fans are not entertained so why should they spend hard earned money for a bad performance. Like a movie or a show that gets bad reviews people do not go to see them.

Not showing up to games doesn't mean the fan isn't supportive of the kids. Did it ever cross you mind that they may not be supportive of the coach? Nobody has blamed the kids and nor are they sisters of the poor. They receive a free education, job interview for the NFL and other perks the everyday college student doesn't get. For you to dictate that someone should spend their hard earned money under the guise of supporting the players is completely wrong. For consumer to choose not to spend their money on a subpar product has nothing to do with team support. They can cheer them on from the confines of their home and save about $300-$500. TN fans have been supportive for 10+ yrs of mediocrity! I see no harm in demanding a better product for the money we spend.

it's a tough spot, i donate and pay for season tickets but I also know as long as butch is our coach we wont win, i'm not going because its a non-conference game at 7:30pm. I pay too much for my season tickets to 'revolt'.

The program will be "turned around" when we represent the East in Atlanta, have quality depth, and don't close out seasons losing to South Carolina and Vanderbilt. As it stands, in 5 years, Jones has managed to build what is probably the worst team we have fielded in decades.

YAY let’s support mediocrity. Rah rah rah!

On a serious note. It’s up to the individual. I can see both sides of the coin and I don’t think either makes you more or less of a fan.

1) to say"I'm going because I support Butch and the team and you are a bad fan of you don't" is stupid.
2) to say"I'm going because I support those kids and everyone else should" is stupid.
3) to say "I'm going to support the Vols or I'm not going out of protest and you can do what you want to" is where I am and I think we agree UTK.
3) but to say no one should go in protest is absolutely absurd and ban worthy.

Great Post. I’m guessing that there may be 500-1000 less “fans” at the game who feel they’re making a positive impact on my University by boycotting. Yeah, I know, your not hurting the players, just the head coach....

I also noticed that those who wore sacks over their heads the last 2 games would keep them on while we’re losing, then take them off when we were winning.....go figure.

Those who aren’t attending because of this “movement” are already miserable in their lives, they’re non-achievers still searching for ways to be recognized in their own little world.

These “fans” don’t know how to deal with adversity. “I can’t take it anymore, fire him now or I’ll cry.”

Yes, we know that most of you who are trumpeting “empty Neyland” weren’t going to the game anyway...

The ones I love the most are those who claim that, “we’re now the laughing stock of college football....nobody respects us.” Well, all you have to do to make this an accurate statement is to change “we’re” to “I’m” and you would be right.

Losers...

Totally agree with you.

He did turn it around.

Did a complete 360 and we are pretty much back to where Dooley had the program.

APR is better and that's about it.

The vaunted recruiting has us down to 6 or 7 healthy offensive linemen, no LB depth and an injury away from playing a QB that they were fighting SMU and Louisiana Lafayette for in McBride.

The apparent dysfunction in the locker room makes it look like Tyler Bray is doing the pre game speeches.

The on the field results are trending about the same this season.

So you think there will be more people there on Saturday than we’re there for the South Carolina game? There were 97,000 there for that game. I will be shocked if there are more than 85,000 there on Saturday.

Blame whoever you want. Blame the people that are fed up with mediocrity. Don’t dare blame yourself though. Don’t dare blame others like Phil who are ok with winnng 6-8 games a year and then a bowl game. Yay! We get to go to a bowl!

I imagine you and Phil being the coaches in little league that give everyone a trophy. Good for you guys. You guys are real champions of life.
