Some folks on this board have been Vol fans longer than some on here have been alive. Some who predict the Vols would never lose to KY were the same ones who had never seen it in their lifetime. Some who point to a +5 wins from last season could be just optimistic and deep down don't truly believe it could happen but hope that it does.
I don't believe anyone has forgot the struggle the past 4 seasons and as far as trespasses go, that sounds like butt hurt and personal. For me this will be the first year the HC has enough talent and depth to compete and I look forward to seeing how he handles it. There are way to many fans on this board who think they know all there is to know about coaching and running a D1 program, get a clue if you were that good you would be doing it and xbox or whatever game system you play on does not count. I was around when Majors came back and it was a long slow process before the talent and team chemistry begin to show on the field. If we continue to show signs of improvement as in winning a game we shouldn't, dominating weaker teams and being in tough games to the end....that is improvement.
People sometimes forget that these are kids in uniform and kids don't always do as their told or have been taught, the key is making these mistakes less and learning from them. Do I think DD is the right man for the job? Except for the win/loss column yes I do. Players are not getting into near the amount of trouble off the field as what we had for years here. The only other missing element is just win some games and if that doesn't happen we find someone who can.
People want to knock his recruiting rankings seem to forget that this university has been irrelevant in football over half the lives of the recruits we seek. To get the recruits we have got given that scenario is not bad, if I was 17 or 18 and had my pick where to play and had no emotional ties to a university, I doubt UT would be in my top 5 based on relevancy. So for me to get the recruits we have, that is a good thing, win a bunch of games and recruiting gets easier and the fans take their foot off the hot seat gas pedal.
How about life in general. CDD just happens to be a member of a very elite group. Certainly his win/loss record is not what VOL fans wished for but it's reality. One can opt to be negative and whine about it, or one can be optimistic about the upcoming season. What group do you consider yourself in?
I've seen no one say anything bad about DD personally. All I've seen is discussion and criticism about his coaching. And in HIS chosen field he is a loser.

That's the difference between you and me. I don't find it "fun" to insult anything UT.
Tennessee Football isn't life or death. I hope it never is for any of us.
But I have a mom who is fighting cancer and taking chemo for third time because she can't kick the ****.
I have a step-son who leaves July 31st to enlist as a combat medic in the Army.
I don't take things for granted. I love the things I love. And my family and I love Tennessee football. We don't find it to be a joke on a message board.
The teams aren't here to save someone from cancer. The teams aren't going to save someone from getting blown up by a road side bomb.
But the team of football players for the Tennessee Vols are a constant of all things good, whether they are good or not, if you know what I mean. So forgive me if I don't fall into the punch line of jokes about the coaches or the players.
I realize this is way too dramatic and totally inappropriate. And my apologies for that as well.
VG I'm sorry to hear about your mother. I've lost loved ones to cancer and it's a terrible thing. My prayers are with you, your mother and your family and hopefully she'll whip it. Also thank your son for his service and may God speed and protect him.
However please don't mistake the love and support of UT that some of us have just because we don't think DD is doing a good job. UT is and always will be bigger than any one individual and especially the coaches. Coaches will come and go but UT will always be there. I know some can't differentiate being critical of the coach and see that as "bad mouthing UT and the program" and that couldn't be further from the truth. DD gets paid millions of dollars to do his job. Many of us feel he has failed miserably. However I along with pretty much everyone else I've seen who is critical of him has stated repeatedly we hope we're wrong and he becomes a great coach. But we have seen nothing in his past that suggests otherwise.

Thank you Beef. I appreciate your response, and I'm thankful for your prayers.
My best friends wife is a breast cancer survivor after a few lapses she's now 10 years clean. So keep a positive attitude and hopefully a celebration like we just had for her will be in your future.

Somebody with a winning record as a Head Coach or alot of success as a DC or OC at major programs with NCs.
Good luck getting a reasonable answer for that one. When the mud slingin' starts and a reasonable question is asked around VN, the sound of crickets can be heard for miles.
So if Dooley can't put the championship level pieces back together no one else worth a crap will ever want to coach at UT again?
Or am I miss understanding what you are saying?
Who we would have gotten is irrelevant at this point. Who we could hire in his place isn't.
You make it sound as if we're Vandy, UT is still a top notch program and our expectations shouldn't be compromised because of the recent downward spiral.
Will be partaking.
