his job isn't to bring that "racers" point of view; that is what Dale Jarret gets paid to do. just like Andy Petree's job is to give that "crew chiefs" point of view.

I liked the old TNN (The Nashville Network) broadcast when Eli Gold, even though he's a Bama guy, and Buddy Baker did some races.

By racers point of view I mean someone involved with racing or has a raceing background(either as a driver or worked on race cars). I'm not saying he does or doesn't. I haven't reall checked to see. To me, having Jerry Punch in the booth is like having a baseball player call a hockey game. Just my opinion. As volfanbill put it, different strokes for different folks.

Definately. A great team of guys to call a race. I also liked Eli Gold, like someone else mentioned.

he used to be a pit reporter. can't get much closer than that unless you're driving or calling the shots.

Weber and Mike Joy used to work on race cars?

It doesn't get better than listening to some legends such as the crew of Ned Jarret, BP, and Jenkins, or other network leaders such as TNT's Baker or CBS' Ken Squier.

Bill Webber along with Jerry Punch are my 2 least favorites.(I think I stated that before) I kinda like Mike Joy just because he tries to keep Darrell waltrip in check every now and then. Like I said before. Some of my disslike to them may be because I am partial to Fox's race coverage.

Mike Joy is a complete tool. I believe he's in the early stages of Alzheimer's and he's terribly biased when it comes to Kyle Busch.

Back to Weber for moment, according to reports Sheheen is going to be back in the booth this weekend in Daytona.

i don't really notice Mike Joy. between Larry Mac slaughtering the English language and DW talking about how great he was/is, Joy gets drowned out in stupidity and babble.

Ken Squier misscalled more things in a race than actually happened, one of the worst in my opinion. I would lose count of how many times he would report a car trying to pass another when it had just been passed by the other car. He obviously drank too much.

I agree that Jarrett, Parsons and Jenkins were the best. I liked Jerry Punch, he is one of the most knowlegable people in the media, and one of the most respected by the drivers.

And he hasn't been the lead broadcaster since 1997, which was the point. I guess 1997 could be considered very recently if you're 92 years old.

He did Daytona for Speed this year. He also did a good portion of the truck races in '95 and '96 on CBS with Ned Jarrett.

Should have been sooner. He thought of himself as the next Chris Economacki, but he fell way short. This guy made more gaffes than Charles Barkley.

When did the Daytona 500 move to the Speed channel? What do truck races in 1995 and 1996 have to do with his last Daytona 500 broadcast happening in 1997?

I vaguely remember him as I was also pretty young near the end of his broadcasting career, but that sounds about right.
