I have a matra, "if you leave a game early because a loss is almost certain you will never see a miraculous comeback".

My brother said he remembered those words when he stayed till the end of the Auburn football game in 1998.

I once flew from New York to South Carolina to watch TN play the Gamecocks in football. TN was down double digits with like 3 and change so I left. My brother called on the way to the car and said GET BACK to the stadium. It was too late. Vols won. I’ve regretted it to this day. There’s nothing I hate more than the sound of an opposing team’s stadium when the final horn blows and the Vols lost, but now I try to stay.
Soaking wet stayed and saw Clint Stoerner(spelling?) fumble. The rest is history!!

My view from the stands. I think my "Oh My God" reaction was appropriate. LOL. Ya'll post your pics and vids from the game!! Would love to see them. What a day to be a TN VOL!!!

Guess I'm old school. When I go to a game I watch the game as intended, not on a 5 inch or whatever phone screen so I can brag about it to others. I live in the moment.

You are right though - it’s generational. Cell phones are just an extension of who we are now. I teach college communications and there’s a lot of theories behind why we do it. There‘s a negative side. If the titanic sank today, we’d probably record ourselves going down with the ship, but some folks like to capture/revisit moments in their lives. Even sharing those moments in time with other people.

Our limited human brains would not be able to accurately capture our life experiences. At least not for the long term. Memories do tend to fade with age. However, modern technology has blessed us with the ability to record audio/video of our everyday lives if we wanted to. We can then share our life experiences with others even long after our deaths.

I drove down from Houston for the SEC tournament and then over to Knoxville for regionals and hopefully on to Omaha in a few weeks. I’m capturing as many memories as I can along the way during this memorable run.

I feel ya there, and I’m only 33. I hate watching life through a phone

I recorded it but I'm glad I did. I've watched it multiple times (20 or so) since then. I see something new each time. An expression, a couple of guys, and on and on. It is funny to see how each player reacted. Mine was trapped in dugout and couldn't get out but then he jumped around like a 5 year old. There is a video of Vitello running up the first base line like a kid. I would probably change a few things about how Drew responded but I don't know that I would have been any different in that moment, especially at 20 and knowing now what the Wright State dugout was saying to our guys during this game and had said last year after they beat us in person and on social media. I don't think you can ever prepare for a moment like that. If you were watching that scenario play out in a movie as a baseball person you would laugh and say that is not real. It never happens like that. But it did. And I have it recorded forever from my personal point of view.
