I just thought volnation had more respect for a kid that walked on and earned a starting spot... I don't remember anyone saying anything about Bain... (Yea holy grail bain)... But we are all for bashing a kid that gave his all and then some... He was a smart football player and didn't miss assignment a lot compared to NFL talented kids that did... That's where big plays happen...

Most of what I've read doesn't sound like bashing. Just that people appreciate his efforts but blame the coaches for not finding a better option.

Some are bashing him... Idk, I remember when guys like this were celebrated because people understood how hard they worked to get to where they are.

So, here was my point in all of this.

Dodson and Bituli were both being recruited by UT. When Bituli committed, they (coaches) stopped recruiting Dodson. Word on the street was that Dodson would have committed to UT as well, but they stopped communicating with him.

Dodson is a million times better LB than Jumper.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda....
Hey now, Jumper is a man!

Lol. We had nobody on last year’s defense that anybody had to “game plan” for. Perhaps Gaulden was a focal point for some OCs, maybe Warrior, maybe Bituli when Jones actually let him play....they might’ve made their guys aware of those players, but nobody was setting their game plan based on them. The offenses we played could just line up and beat whatever man we had lined up against them. No special considerations were needed.

Yet, no one else made the plays in terms of sacks and TFLs that Jumper made. Downplay it all you want, but our front 7 absolutely blew and Jumper was the best of all of them penetrating and making a play in the opposing team’s offensive backfield. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative for the multitude of Colton Jumper haters, but it’s the truth.

Look man Jumper was the absolute worst MLB in UT history and in the entire SEC. Coaching malpractice kept him in the game bottom line. Coaches speaking of the only guy who could get the guys lined up etc were fools. He had little to no talent and made and missed tkls after the LOS.

Perhaps you missed all the other players who continually and unfailingly missed tackle after tackle, assignment after assignment, and who gave up big play after big play??......Jumper was one of many, damn near everyone else in orange and white who Jones and Shoop ran out there to play defense.

For you or any other poster on here to act like Jumper was somehow more awful than the rest of them not named Gaulden, Warrior or Bituli is ridiculous. He missed a lot of plays, no doubt, but he made more big plays, more potentially game-changing plays than any other Vol on defense last year. Period.

I’ve said he wasn’t particularly good and I agree that the excuse by the staff was that he was the only player who could get players lined up....that too is ridiculous.

But the ironclad fact is, despite playing behind a pathetic DL that couldn’t occupy anybody and keep flies off a pile of dog ish, Colton still led the (pathetic) defense in both sacks and tackles for loss, which are two dynamic plays which help your defense immensely. You can say he was horrible, he sucked and he only played because Jones is incompetent (which is true, the fool is incompetent) or because his daddy has a lot of money.....but none of that will ever change the fact that he has more sacks and tackles for loss than any other player on our defense last year, period.

Does anyone know where last years D would rank for TFL and sacks compared to past years D’s. Not making arguments one way or another. Just curious.

I'm not trying to throw shade at any of these guys because they are VFL and I'll always pull for them. However, the fact that we've had walk ons like Frogg, the Sullens Bros, Tyler Wolf, Jacob Gilliam, and Jumper not only in the two deep, but starting goes a long way toward explaining why we've only competed for a championship once since 2004.

Jumper did what he could with the opportunities he had, and he is a VFL, but he was a liability that our opponents obviously attacked. This is not a knock on him, but on our previous coaching staff for not having someone more capable starting in that spot.

four-star junior wide receiver lance wilhoite of franklin road academy in nashville, tenn., the no. 1 prospect from tennessee in the industry-generated 247sports composite, is set to return to tennessee on friday. The 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound wilhoite, who's one of the vols' top in-state targets in the 2019 class, has visited tennessee multiple times in the past. But the trip to knoxville on friday will be his first since new tennessee coach jeremy pruitt's hiring in december.

Wilhoite is scheduled to stop at tennessee before traveling to clemson on saturday for the tigers' spring game.

He has received scholarship offers from more than 20 schools, including ohio state, clemson, florida state, louisville, auburn, florida, lsu, ole miss, mississippi state, penn state, south carolina, kentucky, vanderbilt and virginia tech.

Wilhoite is ranked the no. 89 overall prospect and no. 16 wide receiver in the 247sports composite for the 2019 class. He's also ranked by 247sports as the no. 204 overall player and no. 34 wide receiver in the 2019 class and the no. 7 junior from the state of tennessee.

Florida state hosted wilhoite on one of his latest visits more than a month ago, and he said after the trip to tallahassee, fla., that the seminoles were "high up" on his list of college choices. Ohio state, clemson and louisville are believed to be among the other main contenders for wilhoite.

Tennessee remains the favorite to land him, according to the 247sports crystal ball, with the vols getting approximately 67 percent of the current predictions. But the other 33 percent of the picks currently are going to florida state, which has received the two most recent predictions.
