I’ll never understand the lack of love for Jumper on here. Watch the film. He wasn’t the problem.

I’m not a player hater but he wasn’t good enough. He wasn’t big enough, strong enough or fast enough to be a starting SEC LB. However, he was smart enough and he gave his all for Tennessee. I thank him for that. But by watching the games it was noticeable how he wasn’t good enough physically to match up vs SEC offenses. Those are factual observations, not hate.

If a player isn’t good enough for top programs they shouldn’t be for us. Our coaches either cruited wrong LBs or didn’t develope them.....S&C program included. If Jumper was best we had on our roster that points to the ones getting paid.

-Tyrel Dodson - Texas A&M LB (Franklin, TN)

So, here was my point in all of this.

Dodson and Bituli were both being recruited by UT. When Bituli committed, they (coaches) stopped recruiting Dodson. Word on the street was that Dodson would have committed to UT as well, but they stopped communicating with him.

Dodson is a million times better LB than Jumper.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda....

Not number one but here ya go

Thanks for that. It’s awesome that someone keeps up with that stat. And I’m not shocked at all by Mosley. I’m glad we are getting two new corners, because ours last year couldn’t tackle at all

Shouldn't be shocked by Jumper either.

The guy played to his ability.
It's not his fault more physically gifted guys didn't step up.

We deserve 4-8 if he was our best olayer

Didn’t say he was our best player, said he led the defense in 2 important measures of defensive production, which he did.

I thought Gaulden, Warrior and Bituli were easily our best defensive players.

And we deserved 4-8 because Lyle Jones was our head coach.

Yeah it does point to the ones getting paid. They wrre also saying and denying that the Fr Lb who cm from IMG was more talented but they were worried about alignments. I remember telling Butch, Shoop, and Thig yawl have to be the illest staff alive. We have a heavy foot sorry Lb who misses every play and yawl refuse to give a young kid an opportunity. They looked at me like I was crazy.

Not sure where you got the info but Tyrell and Bituli were different years. So there was no he commited and they stopped. Where you're right is Dodson would've easily been a Vol if the coaches wouldn't hv tried to slow play him like they did and call back at the last minute. Former Titans Wr coach Shawn Jefferson called me and said cm watch this kid from Centennial he's a rb/lb and 1 helluva athlete and could benefit from working with you all at NPA. I went and the kid put on a show. He had like 200+ rushing and 3 tds against Ravenwood on offense and about 15-20 tkls on defense, but lost at the end due to a Van Jefferson td. I immediately call Butch and Thigpen. Thigpen comes to town that Monday goes to Centennial and basically does nothing. The film was sent the Saturday before he got up to see the kid in person. No offer or nothing. Then towards the end they tried to offer because Chief came to town and offered and Tyrell was ready to commit and get it over with. After he commited they called saying what's going on and in a fake panic but no one wanted to hear it.

No we didnt deserve 4-8. One of the most well respected DCs in the country liked Jumper. Bash him all you want, but the guy was a good player. Our best defender? No he was not. Did he give the best effort? I believe so.

He made solid plays but made way too many bad ones....awful at times....did he give all he had all his heart absolutely.....

He was not good. /discussion

Never said he was particularly good, just that he created more splash plays (sacks and TFLs) than anybody else on our defense and he was better than other linebackers on the team, namely 4 star players Dillon Bates and Gavin Bryant. People talk about him like he was trash and that he was THE reason our defense was awful. Fact is, he was one of the better players on our pathetic defense and it would’ve been worse without him. Tifwiw.

Easy to make these "splash" plays when the other team didn't have to game plan for you.

I love guys like Jumper who give their all and then some. But sometimes that is not enough. Not a knock against Colton, just a fact.

Lol. We had nobody on last year’s defense that anybody had to “game plan” for. Perhaps Gaulden was a focal point for some OCs, maybe Warrior, maybe Bituli when Jones actually let him play....they might’ve made their guys aware of those players, but nobody was setting their game plan based on them. The offenses we played could just line up and beat whatever man we had lined up against them. No special considerations were needed.

Yet, no one else made the plays in terms of sacks and TFLs that Jumper made. Downplay it all you want, but our front 7 absolutely blew and Jumper was the best of all of them penetrating and making a play in the opposing team’s offensive backfield. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative for the multitude of Colton Jumper haters, but it’s the truth.
