TN wins a Herbie award!

I’m sure most don’t care at all about the awards that Herbstreit gives out, but Vols football won for Best Game Operations! Even as a rival, I can’t say I disagree. I’ve never been fortunate enough to attend a game at Neyland, but it certainly looks like a great atmosphere from my TV room!

For health reasons I’ve gotten to where I prefer watching the games at home rather than at the stadium, but I would love to experience Neyland once. If I get the chance and my health allows it, I’m going to someday.
Let me give you my best story for an opposing fan at Neyland. My College roommate and now best friend unfortunately was born and bred Bama. Has a uncle coach there and all that blah blah blah!

I took him to Neyland for his first visit. He is a level headed fan, and we both played. We got there early and I asked him what he thought. He said man I’ve been to many college games and I said not here. He said it seems like many of the others I’ve been to. I said ok.

When the Power T formed I looked at him and he was stunned, the big revelation was when the T opened up, the crowd went wild, and he raised his arm and said look 👀. The hair on his arms was standing straight up and he was smiles ear to ear.

As it calmed down before kickoff, he said and I quote “How in the hell can a high school kid come to this and not go to school here”

Then we beat Bama and helped get Shula fired. Just a little reference to how long ago this took place.

Athens is a nice little college town, kind of in the same vibe as Oxford. The Georgia fans barking in your face are obnoxious and nearly intolerable. I got hit with a dip spit cup after the crazy comeback win in 2006 and will forever hate those ugly dog fans.

To me Sanford is awesome, obviously I’m a little biased as I’ve had many good times there. It holds approximately 93,000 so it’s not as big as Neyland, but it is definitely a great college football atmosphere.

I’ve heard stories of GA fans not treating visiting fans as they should, but in my experience it’s quite the opposite. In my experience you are much more likely to meet Dawg fans that will invite you to tailgate with them and talk football respectfully and playfully. In fact, I would say that the majority of UGA fans you might run across there would be very likely to put the disrespectful Dawg fans in their place.

Of course we all have those ignorant fans or perhaps young rowdies that haven’t learned how to enjoy their alcohol responsibly, but I sincerely think that a majority of my Dawg brethren would be very inviting, respectful, and some even go out of their way to help rivals have a good and memorable time at Sanford. I would highly recommend visiting if you have the chance.

We went to Sanford last year for the first time. We all had a great time, except for the loss. Every person I encountered was awesome. We had no idea where we were going, and a group of GA fans told us to follow them and they took us straight to our gate. Everyone was cool and pretty knowledgeable football fans -even the women that were sitting near us. No one barked at us either. It was nowhere near the experience of Neyland though. Neyland is on a different level altogether.

You should give it a shot.

I’ve never been to Sanford, and I’d like to give it a go as well.

I’ve been to both as well as many other top-tier stadiums (including OhSt and ND to name a few), and the top-tier SEC stadiums are all electric game day experiences. Definitely a cut above.

I have sworn that I will never ever attend a football game in Athens. Ay my age, I just don't feel safe around that bunch of pot heads.

And I hope if it's your dogs that everything is as good as you can hope and your dogs lose by 30. 😉 @DirtyDawg your good people. Hope you can make it.
At the black out game and I want to give a shout out to Oklahoma fans. What a great group of people. A long time Oklahoma fan said if you took the state fair away from the Red River rivalry that the Neyland experience would blow that historic rivalry experience away. And he said this before the scoop and score.

Sanford sucks. It's MID tier SEC (and quiet for 93,000).

Yes, I've been. Twice.

**LOL f'n L. It's the ONLY away experience I've had with chit fans (BOTH times). There's a difference with friendly ribbing, but y'all are azzholes.
They've lost 1 game there since 2019. I'd like some of that mid.

I've been to Sanford for a couple of games. I thought the atmosphere was great.

Do you think they'll ever reroute that eyesore street and add more seating?

They have been doing renovations since 2023 and they say that that will have some effect on the open end zone.

The University and many fans consider this feature a mainstay though, bc it was made to intentionally show part of the campus to those in attendance. I don’t think they will ever change it, or at least not in the foreseeable future.

I wouldn’t mind if they did though, it could potentially add tons of seats.

I've been 6 times started going in '96, always had a great time, even with a couple loses. If you make it to Neyland let me know and we will take care of your group.

I’ve seen the Vols at Sanford three times. The two games we won I absolutely loved that stadium. I hated Sanford the game we lost. 😂 Sanford is a bona fide SEC experience. They can’t all be Neyland, guys. I liked it better than Bammaw or Auburn. I also saw an Olympic soccer game there years ago. Going to an away game is really fun. In Sanford you feel like you’re really seeing something, a rich tradition. So long as we are winning I like seeing the hedges and hearing them sing Glory, Glory to Ole Georgia, and see all the enthusiasm. I hate everyone we play. 😂 But these people are at least worth hating! I wish I’d approached some tailgaters.
