TN to wear Orange Home Jerseys - NOT! (merged)

I am still steaming over this...this would have been good publicity to a struggling rivalry nationally...but NO! I HATE BAMMER!

Although this is a relatively small thing. . .perhaps Kiffin can use this to stoke up the Vols even more than they already are going to be playing a #1 team! :dance2:

Vols Win. . .24-17

:fireworks:

If we can't wear orange jerseys, we'll wear orange
gloves!! :number1:

A lot of old-school vols wouldn't like it, but I would enjoy seeing the VOLS come out in black jersey's and pants with orange numbers and trim. Black helmets too!

I don't understand why Bama wouldn't want to let us. It's a good freaking tradition. I really hope UT is above that and lets/asks Alabama to wear crimson next year. I wonder what Bama fans thoughts are on this.

I don't care either way. I doubt wearing orange or white will not have an effect on the game's outcome. After the first few downs, the teams settle in the game continues.

EXACTLY it's not meant to effect the game, but to emphasize the tradition of the rivalry and do something that was always done 40 years ago!

Now why wouldn't Bammer want that?

Once the Bear comes out of his 26 year hibernation and resumes command of the state of alabama, he will demand that we wear the orange jerseys like we did in his day.

state of alabama intentionally in lower case

The point is that Bammers had no good reason to deny this and it makes the School look scared and petty. They deserve to have their perfect season tarnished this weekend in an upset for the ages - VOLS WIN!

Remember CLK being quoted "I don't know all of Tennesse's traditions, nor do I pretend to". Looks like he is atleast trying.

That's a good point. Mal Moore, WWTBD? I think we know he'd want both teams to wear their colors.

Hey Vol nation...I just heard that Nick Saban and Alabama denied us permission to wear our Orange jerseys against them saturday. It would be so classic to see the Orange clash with the Red on the field like back in the day.

Does anyone here have any idea why they would object to this idea??? USC and UCLA do it all the time. I think they are afraid!!! I also think that Kiffin should think about taking the 15 yard penalty on the opening kick and wear them anyways....Any thoughts Nation??? :rock2:

Do you mean like they were afraid of Georgia in Black jerseys?!?

I agree. I think Bammers are scared of CLK.

Mal Moore, Alabama athletic director, issued a statement Monday night in response to the Mobile Press-Register:

“Mike (Hamilton) and I had a good conversation this morning and I told him that it is our desire to maintain the custom of the visiting team wearing their visiting jerseys. We’ll continue to wear our white jerseys when we visit Knoxville next year.’’

thanks bama for re-asserting your place at the head of the anti-awesome table.

It is really quite simple. The NCAA instituted the white visitor jersey to make it easier for viewers of Black and White TV. They might allow us to wear Orange when Color TV gets to Alabama.

This really sounds to me like Alabama wants to downplay this as a rivalry game, to insist that this is Just Another Game, etc., which sounds like a very Saban-esque attitude. Both teams wearing home colors underlines that it's a rivalry game, which you don't want if you're a stick in the mud who doesn't care about SEC history and you're just trying to get through the schedule. Underscoring that it's a rivalry game is probably not something you want if you're the #1 team in the country and the other team is a rebuilding team coming off a losing season.

Having asked and been publicly turned down, I think if I were Kiffin I'd say screw it and wear them anyway. You're not going to lose the game because of two personal fouls, and it would certainly generate the publicity that Kiffin loves so much. Warm up in white jerseys and orange pants, and then come out of the tunnel in all orange. Our kids would be ready to run through a wall for the first ten minutes.

Come out for warmups wearing the ORANGE JERSEYS and orange pants... Change back to white jerseys before kickoff...

After we beat them, put the ORANGE jerseys back on for the press conference...

Stir that pot!

Even better... Come out of the tunnel wearing the whites, and tear them off, revealing the ORANGE on the sideline before kickoff... If I was in the crowd, I would probably pass out from the awesomeness!

I know this was meant as a joke, but as someone who is familiar with televising sports, those broadcast quality television camera's have black and white viewfinders because it makes it easier for the operator to focus. For a camera op, trying to televise a game with two teams wearing colored jersey's is a nightmare.

Who cares about Bama? We can start a new tradition with someone else like South Carolina. Some earlier mentioned having them wear all black while we wear all orange.

What's interesting is that when Auburn played at Tennessee a couple of weeks ago they wanted to do their Tiger Walk.

UT athletic officials turned them down. The popular sentiment was, "They're not the home team. We are."

Now, why do they think that same logic should not apply?

Nope, AU was turned down because it was a safety concern. Its a very cramped area where they wanted to do their walk. If something would have happened it would have been bad EMS would have not been able to get through the people. Big difference here.
