Is anyone else even in the running? Seems TN is only school interested in him from what I have read. Arkansas and Auburn passed on him already and I can't think of another school needing a DC thats paying close to a million a year.

If Shannon wants to get back into coaching, TN appears his only option at this point.

Maybe he's just turning down every offer like Fulmer does every time:)

He passed on Maryland, UCLA and Arky (not enough money).

Shannon said he basically passed on those jobs because it was not a good fit. I took it to mean they were not big enough schools to pay a big time coach.

He passed on the UCLA and Maryland jobs because it would have affected his $1.5 million buyout with Miami. Arky wasn't going to pay him what he's worth.

I would definitely think so. Hell, they offered Chavis 1 million per year.

Tripper, I don't understand that. It wasn't long ago that everyone was complaining about his Mustang Defense that would almost get us beat. He wasn't known for game time adjustments. He's also the beneficiary of a Huge exclusive recruiting pool at lsu. Good players make good coaches.

What offers has Fulmer had?

Its just a VN joke.

Every time a HC job comes available a Fulmerite suggest that Phil is a leading candidate, or is considering etc... Then when he isn't named coach all the Fulmerites declare that Phil just turned down the offer because obviously he can get any job he wants

For the record, before I get blasted, I respect Phil and everything he did but it was time for him to go. Please don't kill the thread and get this merged into the Fulmer debate by getting all bent out of shape.

Yes,

Dooley is the only coach in America impressed by Shannon's coaching resume. What a noob! To think that so many top five and top ten finishes mean anything. Ha! We negavols know differently! And ...and...Doooley couldn't even win at LaTech! And...and...he wouldn't even release Arnette! And he's mean to his players, he slaps them on the shoulder pads! Oh wait, I mean he's too NICE to his players, doesn't know how to motivate them! And his MOM! Oh ho, his mom!

He's just not the type of coach we want at UT.

All I know is with the non stop torrent of just plain rotten sh$t the past 5 years , if we don't land a solid DC I'm gonna puke. Just so d$%n sick of the feeling of dread when it comes to football.

Not true at all. West Virginia is courting him hard and there are several schools who would be thrilled to have Shannon, including Tenn. He is a good hire, in my opinion and UT fans will be happy with him

That has not been verified by anyone other than Hymans. I doubt that is true.

Hymans also said Cutcliff was the likely selection for the hc at UT. In reality he was never a serious candidate.

I would be shocked if there was an actual offer to Chavis. Someone likely asked his agent along with several other agents if their client would have any interest in the position. No different that when we are hiring for an open position. We look at 20 resumes - call half a dozen and confirm that they are still in the market and that they would be interested in our opening.

Technically if one of them immediately says they were not looking for a job in Savannah or Charleston at this time --- they could tell their friends -- they turned down the job and apparently Jimmy can then also report it in the national media.

Doug Matthew's said Shannon doesn't fit what TN is looking for. He said TN is looking for a 4-3 guy who can coach a position. He mentioned Steele and Smart.

Sorry but they were serious about Cutcliffe

If they hadn't tried to dictate which coaches he could bring or not bring, he would have probably been our coach right now. It wouldn't be near the circus it is right now, if that was the case.
