Jauan Jennings turned out pretty good. We started him at QB. That saying he was never really taken seriously there. Wyatt is a great athlete that is fast. He will translate one way or the other in my opinion.

Imo, one of the big keys to him making the transition to a new position, safety or especially edge….. does he like contact or shy away from it. His level of physicality will be a huge factor. You can get away with not liking contact few positions on the football field.

Looking at the tape he doesn't look like someone who fears contact by any means. He definitely has fluid hips as well. I tend to agree that he looks more like a Safety to me.

True, that was the downside with Beckwith. Kid did not like contact.

I mean, I hope the kid picks Tennessee. But I'm not gonna lie, I'm always a little wary of the great athlete types who don't have a clearly defined position.

The staff is definitely pushing for him so they have a plan for him. I'm hoping we're the pick.

I just can't imagine intentionally going to Vanderbilt when you have other options. Last year was a pinnacle year for them and they won what... 7 games?

Glad to hear he is being targeted by the staff. Hate having to guess what I should be hoping for with instate players. Sometimes I GUESS that we are being politically correct and in, but not all in. In today’s world if we give it our best shot and we get outbid I am good with it.

Yeah, my comment wasn’t a declaration that he doesn’t like contact, just that is an important factor. I haven’t watched any of his games so it’s good to hear that he doesn’t shy away from contact.

Honestly I still think he would’ve been phenomenal at safety also. He was absolute clutch at wr though.

That’s such a broad statement. Hard to put a number on it but I imagine it’s about half and half. Sometimes great athletes just don’t have the mentality to be great football players.

That’s fair. But that’s also fair for every position. Like there’s more kids that are bona fide prospects at their specific position that just don’t turn into anything. Nico, given how high the expectations were. Nathan Leacock at WR. Chandavian Bradley at Edge. Addison Nichols OL. Harrison Bailey at QB. Dillon Bates at LB. Key Lawrence at DB. Maliek Gray at S. Kongo SDE. Drew Richmond at OT. JG at qb. Preston Williams at WR. khaleil McKenzie at DT. Kyle Phillips at SDE. Bryce brown at RB.

I mean the list goes on and on of high expectation players that never met potential or even started. There’s at least one every year it seems. Maybe it is that most kids just don’t have what it takes to perform at a really high level. But when it comes to camp measurable winning athletes that never break the 2 deep, to me that’s more often than not on the coaches to put them where they belong (from a physical attribute and mentality point of view) to get the most of that talent, versus a player that didn’t have what it took.

I should see them scrimmage start of August so I’ll come back to it then. I feel like he would just tell me safety tbh. But they need front 7 talent BADLY and already have Craig Tutt and now Justis Haggard back there in addition to several other senior safeties that have played a good amount

Four-star athlete Joel Wyatt is reportedly nearing a college commitment, Rivals’ Chad Simmons reported earlier this week. Wyatt told Simmons that he plans on committing before the start of his senior season and could even make a decision before the end of July.
