'26 TN S Joel Wyatt (Tennessee)

The Knowles hire could be a game-changer for Wyatt. Knowles runs a base 4-2-5, but 3 of those DBs are considered Safeties. The 3rd Safety/Nickel is a hybrid DB/LB and Wyatt should fit that role perfectly.

Land a couple of portal Safeties/NBs for this season, give Wyatt a year to mature into the role, then watch him blow up in 2027.

Wouldn’t Chop be his position coach? Hasn’t he been recruited to be OLB?
That was my point...I think a lot of people are thinking he is going to be a safety (which he may be)

I just think it's interesting that it sounds like Chop is going to be his position coach but many people on VN think he's going to be a safety

Be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple years

Sounds good to me. Looking forward to seeing Wyatt out there.

Just curious, do you think Perlotte or the incoming B.Rouse could also play that hybrid DB/LB position?

i agree Knowles defense could be perfect for him schematically.

esp compared to Banks scheme

No, he was recruited as a Safety. We had been recruiting him as an Edge, which became a point of contention, then when it looked like he may go elsewhere to play Safety, we told him we'd recruit him as a Safety...at least in terms of where he starts out.

Not gonna lie, I was super skeptical of this commit - just because of our recent history of hybrid types who's skill sets seem to shade in one position yet the player wants to play a different position (see Dee Beckwith, Lenneth Whitehead, Tyler Byrd, etc)

But I actually think Knowls is going to turn Wyatt into a super star. I think/hope once he's an upper classman with a few years in our system, he's going to be the best safety we've had since Berry. That isn't saying much, sure. I just think the kid is going to be a menace in this defense.

I think he’ll fit that Nickel/Strike position in Knowles’ defense perfectly.

I trust knowles. If he (Wyatt) is willing to play to fit he will be successful imo.
