The Scout on Butler
“I think it is just his versatility,” Haywood Head Coach Josh Puckett told Volquest of what has stood out about Butler’s game. “He is really good at anything we ask him to do. He is good at wide receiver. He is good at defensive back. He can step in and play quarterback if we need him to. What makes Jaden different is how unbelievably coachable he is and how good of a teammate he is. All of his teammates love him. He is just an absolute joy to coach. He has been that way since the first day we coached him when he started as a freshman. He has started every game he has ever been a part of in high school. As a freshman, he took lumps, as all freshmen do, and I coached him hard and challenged him, and he never ran from that, even when he struggled. He is a player who has always been super coachable, and everybody in the program loves him. I hope that next year he is Mr. Football in 4A because he deserves it, and all of his teammates would love to see that happen.”
As a leader inside of the Haywood program, Butler leads by example, according to Puckett.
“I challenge him to be a little bit more vocal,” Puckett said. “He is not a vocal kid. He is super humble and quiet, but he leads by example. He shows up every day and does everything the right way, so the guys can always look at him and say, ‘that is how you do it.’ If you get a vocal leader nowadays, it is rare. To get somebody who can be a vocal leader is rare, but he is just a lead-by-example guy. He is so humble and his teammates love him. He is just a great kid.
What does Butler’s commitment mean for the Vols?
Through the transition of defensive staffs, Tennessee never quit prioritizing Butler, which is why they have landed his commitment early in the process. His stock has continued to rise, and this is a nice in-state win for the Vols to kick off spring recruiting. Butler is underrated as a player and has the potential to move around in the secondary. He recently won the MVP award at the Under Armour Camp in St. Louis, and he is a guy, who should really benefit as he gets honed into playing one specific position at the college level.
