'26 TN S Craig Tutt (ole miss commit)

I can only go on their highlight reels. But those reels only show the good, not the missed assignments etc. I do trust the staff.
But we can use the depth at db
I like Tutt too. But I think at this point, any other safety they add would come from the portal. Which is the correct approach.

I still think we will regret not prioritizing Tutt. I don't know as much as they do, but as a junior this kid was more valuable to Oakland than Duane Morris was as a senior... and Morris is an absolute stud.

Plus, we desperately need an All-American at safety again. Idk if Tutt will become that, but he's got the potential.

Well the proof is in the pudding, and we have plenty of pudding to show that whoever is evaluating the safety position and coaching them sucks at his job. He needs to be replaced with someone who can recruit elite talent at position and then coach them.

We should swoop in and get this guy. Things look bad for us getting Moa and I thought that safety was his best long term upside. We still need another safety to pair with Wyatt and whoever else we can get at safety in the portal. Farooq is physical and athletic, but lacks football instincts. And Beasley is just not an elite athlete. We have to bring in 4 safeties.

Because he’s visiting another school, things look bad? This is how rumors get started, shame on you

lol. Why did you ever expect Moa to play anything but WR here?

Does he look at Vols again once Kiffin announces he is leaving Ole Miss?
Think Tennessee is done here. It makes sense. Tutt isn't really Willie Martinez's type, but I think he's a good player. What some people want Farooq to be imo. But Combay is an intriguing safety. Need some portal guys more than anything

Irrelevant. Is he a Tim Banks type safety is the question, since that is who coaches the safety position.

Well it's not irrelevant when Willie is in charge of secondary acquisition and the overall secondary. Tennessee is always going to be getting long, athletic DBs that can recover quickly and play all over secondary under him. Tutt is undersized and a strong safety

Agree on the portal. We need experienced help all over our defense and that hopefully means Heupel is going to be very active in it this year.

Problem is that in addition to needing to "recover", they can't tackle. Our DBs play kinda soft....and I'm not talking coverage.

Tutt is going to be 210 lbs as a safety one day.

You know more than me,but I still wish he was part of our recruiting class. Hate to give up that kind of talent.

Agreed. People that have watched Wyatt and Tutt play next to each to each other will tell you Tutt is the better player AT Safety

But this is Wyatts first year playing safety. And I have to admit I'm intrigued.

Tutt however is that prototype RB playmaker player that you stick at safety because you know he has an array of skills and is not afraid to throw his body in there.

I hate that Banks did not make Craig Tutt a priority...

Then if Martinez is truly in charge of the entire secondary then his failure is absolutely complete. The only saving grace he’s had in the last 24 months was that the CB play had improved and the illusion that Banks was responsible for the safety’s. Whoever has made the decisions in relation to our safety play and development has committed malpractice.

I'm fairly certain Martinez only coaches Corner and star. Banks coached safeties. They brought in an analyst this year from the NFL (Alan Williams) that helps with safeties now as well.
