'26 TN S Craig Tutt (ole miss commit)

If he does have negative feelings against Tennessee, he’s now teammates and in the same secondary with Wyatt. I hope Wyatt is mature enough to make his own decisions. Good thing we offered Wyatt over a year ago

Could be the point. I don’t know.
The point, and this is just my read on it—I'm not telling anyone else how to feel, is that we feel like with the DB coaching we have and the ability to spot really good talent that might not be readily apparent to the recruiting services at the time and turn them into NFL DBs, we can afford to invest less in the DB position to afford us to go all in on guys like Savion Hiter and Tristen Keys.

In the 4 years Heupel has been here, what low rated DB did we recruit and develop into an All-SEC / NFL Draft pick type player?

Tough standard considering they’ve only had 4 seasons. Only their first 2 classes would even be draft eligible. And we all *should* understand the circumstances they walked into.

But helped develop Theo Jackson into NFL player. Kamal Hadden.

Tim Banks being a lazy recruiter continues to be an issue.
Tim SEEMS cerebral to me. It makes absolutely zero sense to:

1) identify, and approach a super high val target when:

1b) you have porthole

2) value experience and intelligence

3) integrity & loyalty

4) db is one of easiest to coach up, but hardest to recruit bc they are in such high demand.

4b) always threatening to leave or transfer

5) why waste time and energy, esp when you like your current roster? NIL can be used for more pressing needs.

6) I love this DB class, it is going to be really really really good.

Alontae Taylor too, I think.

Lmao...Alontae Taylor, Theo Jackson, and Kamal Hadden....next?
Alontae Taylor was a consensus 4 Star WR/ATH that signed in 2018 that played 1 year under CJH (NFL Draft Rd 2)
Kamal Hadden was a 3 Star CB transfer from JUCO/Auburn that signed in 2021 that played 3 years under CJH (NFL Draft Rd 6)
Theo Jackson was a consensus 3 Star S/ATH that signed in 2017 that played 1 year under CJH (NFL Draft Rd 6)

These examples don't really fit the narrative CJH staff identified HS players under the radar then developed them into NFL draft picks. Closest is maybe Hadden.

Yeah, all those guys were projected pre season NFL players….. right.

So let's see:

Taylor was 2021 SEC coaches pre-season All-SEC 3rd Team in only season under CJH, is 6'0 & runs 4.33-4.36 40-yd dash, pretty good shot getting drafted with that evaluation

Hadden was not on pre-season All-SEC team & only played 7 games due to injury in last season, is 6'1" & runs a 4.55-4.59 40-yd dash, explains team taking a flyer in late rounds

Jackson was not on pre-season All-SEC team & had a hell of RS-SR year playing as hybrid LB/S in only season under CJH, is 6'1" & runs 4.42-4.46 40-yd dash, explains team taking a flyer in late rounds

Again, not overwhelming evidence of CJH & staff identifying talent in HS and developing it into NFL caliber players.

Especially after Combay's commitment, did we really want to use another scholly on a safety this far into the cycle? It's not a hard position to recruit to.

I doubt the staff is stressing over Tutt very much.
It’s expanded scholarship #’s now, up to 105 from 85, so yea we definitely have the room. That’s not to say the staff has higher priorities elsewhere though

Valid point, but to counter point, this year’s draft was the only year that a Heupel recruited and signed hs player could get drafted, as the ‘22 guys were jr’s in the ‘24 season
