'26 TN S Craig Tutt (ole miss commit)

That’s your opinion not fact.
That is correct but it's also the opinions of the cfb landscape when you look at who was actually recruiting each safety that this staff has been after. This staff has never went big for safety and that's alright; just think letting a dynamic player like Tutt out of state when you need that position would be a big mistake. I do like Combay tho, so that wasn't me slighting him or anything. Just think Tutt is very, very good

If he was a Tennessee lean they’d wholeheartedly agree.

Just ignore them.

they have gone big, but the last couple years had late flips.

Hayward ended up in Florida, and Smith ended up in Auburn.

Have to wonder about the actual dialog between him and our staff. Talented, yes, instate and preferred, yes, but if you cannot see him all in, you play your cards and see what happens and don’t make bridge approaches if he goes elsewhere.

Tutt as a junior was the best player on Oaklands team.
Statistically he was equally as explosive as Morris. You’re talking about
- 1400 yards rushing 18 TD
- 400 yards receiving 3 TD
- and 65 tackles, FF, Scks, PD, etc!

- When Morris was hurt against State Runner up Anna TX. At TX, Tutt responded for 200 yards rushing and 2 TDs.
- Against their rival Riverdale who’s gotten good again. What does he do? Rushes for 220 yards 😏.
- against Maryville in the State quarterfinal . Close game. Morris is running well! Tutt also had 70 yards and a TD rushing. BUT his greatest impact came to the tune of 3 recs for 123 RECEIVING yards.

When Oakland NEEDED something more this kid gave it to them.

Eric Berry. Sean Taylor. Ed Reed. Jabril Peppers. We’re all prolific Offensive players that used that skillset on defense and become GREAT safeties.

Craig Tutt is a 6’0” 190 lbs athlete that runs hard and has great instincts that he uses all over the football field. Not only is he WAY better than the guys we have committed but he has the makeup of a future ALL-SEC and defensive captain!
He wills his teams to victory.
Anna didn’t finish runner-up in Texas. They got beat at 16 teams. The team that beat them then got their eyes drilled shut the next round. But yes, Tutt is a really good player on both sides of the ball and does anything that is asked of him. If he goes to Ole Piss good luck to him because their defense usually sucks as$ and is the reason they cannot win the big one to make the playoffs. It’s a hallmark of Kiffin that Tutt can continue if he goes there.

What’s the metric for saying that our D is light years ahead? They finished ahead of us in scoring D and third Down D. We finished a percentage point ahead in red zone D.
Well, when it comes to nut cutting time, Kiffin has not been able to cut the nut. He won last year against UGA but he literally lost to LSwho who Bama beat the breaks off, lost to Kensucky when nut cutting time came and lost to Florida also. Stats might provide a behind the scene but in the end the eye test when they lost 3 games to people they never should have is exactly why they missed the playoffs and we didn’t. Our offense wasnt very good against teams with a pulse which is why we lost to Arkansas who put up 19 against us. Ole Miss beat them but gave up 31. If we had a better offense last year the defense would have looked even better, but we had to rely on them so much while Ole Piss had a better offense. I mean Dart literally went for over 4200 yards, 26 TD’s and ran for another 495. If they hadn’t lost Judkins they would have been even more explosive. They had over 1000 more yards than we did in offense.

I don't think its quite fair to dismiss Ole Miss's 24 defense as a 1-off under the assumption ours wasn't. An Ole Miss fan could make the exact same statement about Tennessee.

If you break down Ole Miss's defense you'll note they've statistically been stout in the secondary every year allowing between 220-230 ypg passing from 2019-2024. Not much variation.

The difference last year for Ole Miss was they took their run defense from 150-190ypg (2023 and 2021, respectively) to 80ypg (#1) in 2024.

So, I'd imagine what Kiffin is selling is their consistently strong secondary and now they have a great run D to go with it. Whereas, TN's secondary has gotten progressively better every year (273ypg 2021), but was better last year (189ypg) than Ole Miss. So they'll call that an unknown product and unknown development since we've had a lot of turmoil.

I think Tutt is a gamechanger and I want him bad.

Very little of that makes our D better than theirs. Maybe some… but very little. None of it makes our D “light years” better.

Tutt is a great prospect and I think his recruitment will continue no matter if he does pick Ole Miss. Having said that Combay has all the tools to be a beast as well. Love to have both of them, but I think the Vols are just as high on Combay as they are Tutt. I trust the coaches more than I do the star pin guys. It’s funny some on this board questions our coaches every move but when it comes to some so called expert pinning up stars by someone’s name they take them as the gold standard of truth. When they have been proven as flawed and only a general guide. They miss 3 stars that end up being very productive and there is always 4-5 stars that never quite perform to their billing. That is where the overlooked coaches evaluations and the ability to coach players up comes into equation. GBO

I'd say the two defenses had similar overall results. We did have six common opponents, so that provides a pretty solid sample size for comparison. The stats against those common opponents were pretty split. Cumulatively across those 6 opponents, Ole Miss allowed 1 fewer point, Ole Miss allowed 25 fewer total yards, Tennessee allowed 110 fewer passing yards, and Ole Miss allowed 145 fewer rushing yards. The one big outlier among those six was the games against Georgia. Cumulative result between the other five common opponents would have Tennessee allowing 20 fewer points, 183 fewer total yards, 271 fewer passing yards, and Ole Miss allowing 98 fewer rushing yards.

sorry I mean the year before they were state runnerups.

Pretty telling that Ole Miss seems to be his best option
Ole Miss along with South Carolina was very close to making the CFP.

Miss State is really the only SEC school that still has the lower talent level like they did in 90 and 2000s

every SEC school is better than most other colleges

Yep, too bad their coach sucks donkey balls and blew their load against UGA and miss the playoffs because they lost to Kensucky, Florida and LSU. Can’t keep stubbing that toe against not good teams and expect to take the next step and that is a Kiffin special!

That wasn’t the same Anna team though. Lost a lot from that runner-up squad so they were a decent Texas team but not a good one. Anna gets beat by Lovejoy, lovejoy gets creamed next round by Argyle who in turns gets creamed by South Oak Cliff.

Texas does a really weird job with their classifications. You can be in 5A but larger schools play 5A division 1 while the smaller schools in 5A play Division 2(like Anna) depending on where you finish your district. So your district can have D1 and D2 schools in it lol. Not sure why they just don’t do 9 classifications and be done with it.
