'26 TN S Craig Tutt (ole miss commit)

Watch film of them. If you think any of those guys (with the possible exception of Combay) are as good as Tutt, then I can’t help you.

And a professional coach or scout would agree.
Tutt is a big miss if he chooses Ole Miss. I dont necessarily agree with your comparison though. Tutt is a totally different player than the others. Combay, and I agree with you here, is the closest in terms of size and skill. Freshmen need to play more at Tennessee in the secondary. I was surprised Banks played Carter as much as he did last season and wish he would have played Farooq more .

Idk I really like the KJ McClain and Luke Thompson pickups

I watch their tape and see elite playmaker skills with KJ—turnover machine, always in the right place, tough nosed tackler; and Luke is the fastest guy on the field every down.

It’s a good safety combo as is! Add Tutt who brings the complete package and we’ve got pretty much the perfect safety class imo. Let’s hope we can close this one

They are treating the safety position like the NFL teams are. Not many teams are over paying for safeties anymore

But yet the scouts literally don’t have Combay rated very well either! So did they just not watch the same film that you are? I mean Combay is 46th, McClain is 54th and they are the exact same 88 score. And in position rankings there isn’t much difference between those 2 spots.
You’re talking in circles. If you care what the scouts think, then Tutt is better than the three we have.

You’re fixating on my term “possible exception.” I don’t have to tell you what the word “possible” means, do I? He said “coaches and scouts.” South Carolina coaches and Georgia coaches both like Combay. Georgia backed off after landing others. Thompson and McClain haven’t enjoyed such attention from top tier schools.

Regardless, Tutt would be a big miss, Instate or not. Because he’s a very good prospect. That’s the bottom line. If you wanna waste time with poorly contrived semantical arguments, bark up another tree. It’s tedious.

If the staff isn’t prioritizing Tutt as much as Ole Miss, they must think he isn’t as good as his ranking indicates.

Respectfully, in-state or not, how many of those guys are we certain are better than Tutt? I understand that all we can do is hope they are, but just because we have three guys committed doesn't necessarily mean we shouldn't lament the potential loss of other high-level talents at a position where we haven't exactly experienced a great deal of success.
Who says Tutt is better than the ones we have committed?

While I do believe recruiting services and scouts get it right more often than wrong, they aren’t even close to being infallible. These same scouts dropped guys like David Sanders and George Macintyre I. The off season when no football was even being played.

So how do you drop a kid in the rankings when he isn’t even playing? I totally get it when the season is going on.

Never know if services are rating what they have seen or for an anticipated ceiling. Early shavers can have shown more but appear topped out but later developers could be on an upward trend to a higher ceiling. Accurate current sequence, but coaches more tuned in on projected ceiling, not status through JR year. So many variables in snaps, competition, camps, etc.

Really like to see our sequenced war room wall for this room. They could be bunched real tight and maybe take the first X that we can get.

Our safety play was terrible and exposed as the weakest link against the two best teams we played last year. It may be ok to be SEC average or worse most games but not against teams with talent and coaching.

Turning my question around isnt really a productive exercise, but since you asked, the OP suggesting that we need not care about Tutt because we have Thompson, McClain and maybe Combay certainly implies that he/she believes they're as good or better. Thus my question. And not for nothing, but every recruiting service seems to believe Tutt is the better player. Those services certainly aren't the end all, be all, but they are at least in harmony on that opinion.

I'm sad that Tutt is trending away from UT because he's an instate player. I think Kombay could be the same type/level of player he is. I'm not sure about the other current safety commits. If UT got Tutt and didn't get Kombay, I'd be less sad, but not based on their potential. But, if Tutt is getting more $$$$ at Ole Miss or if UT slow played him or isn't recruiting him as hard or some other reason, more power to him to go wherever he wishes.

But in the end none of us know until they get to campus. I mean Ole Miss just had a good amount of players drafted, yet they still couldn’t get into the playoffs and they had some highly drafted defensive players and yet their defense sucked! So Tutt might be great, goes there and sucks because their defense as a whole does. He might come here and suck and our defense is still light years better than Ole Piss is. In the end I’m not losing sleep because even if our safeties were bad this year we still made the playoffs and Ole Piss didn’t and yet their defenders were drafted higher.

Not true. Tutt is best safety of those four by a solid amount imo
IYO, that’s the key. And to be clear (for those who are arguing my point) I’m not even saying that’s wrong. I’m saying we already have 2 Safeties committed and Combay is probable. Meanwhile we’re talking about a kid who’s likely going to Ole Miss, and IMO (JMO!) we wouldn’t be concerned at all if he weren’t instate since we already have resources committed at that position and he’s not a sure fire 5-star type prospect.

That’s your opinion not fact.
Was Eric Berry not better Prentiss Wagner?

Maybe his opinion is fact???

Let’s say Combay commits which helps get Rouse at LB to commit as well. If Tutt is even considerably better than Combay or Thompson and is interested in Tennessee- why would you not go after him?

Let’s say we signed Corey Vareen and Darryl Taylor in December early signing day. We have the “EDGE” position filled for the class. But James Pearce is still out there and we have 2 scholarships left. Are you not going to recruit him?

Tutt as a junior was the best player on Oaklands team.
Statistically he was equally as explosive as Morris. You’re talking about
- 1400 yards rushing 18 TD
- 400 yards receiving 3 TD
- and 65 tackles, FF, Scks, PD, etc!

- When Morris was hurt against State Runner up Anna TX. At TX, Tutt responded for 200 yards rushing and 2 TDs.
- Against their rival Riverdale who’s gotten good again. What does he do? Rushes for 220 yards 😏.
- against Maryville in the State quarterfinal . Close game. Morris is running well! Tutt also had 70 yards and a TD rushing. BUT his greatest impact came to the tune of 3 recs for 123 RECEIVING yards.

When Oakland NEEDED something more this kid gave it to them.

Eric Berry. Sean Taylor. Ed Reed. Jabril Peppers. We’re all prolific Offensive players that used that skillset on defense and become GREAT safeties.

Craig Tutt is a 6’0” 190 lbs athlete that runs hard and has great instincts that he uses all over the football field. Not only is he WAY better than the guys we have committed but he has the makeup of a future ALL-SEC and defensive captain!
He wills his teams to victory.

What’s the metric for saying that our D is light years ahead? They finished ahead of us in scoring D and third Down D. We finished a percentage point ahead in red zone D.

Love to add him, BUT if his heart is not in it or his current bids are out of line with CJH and bank’s evaluation then so be it. All values can be measured in a few years, not signing day.

For all we know, he may have his own evaluations on our current and projected commits and see better opportunities elsewhere. Not scared, but a calculated position, and that is OK. He should follow his heart.

Does not seem to have a background with ORANGE hats and shirts in it. Our bad as a fanbase, not taking advantage of that HOME STATE benefit.
