Johnny Majors would often make the other team wait sometimes as long as 3 or 4 minutes but seemed much longer....

I saw Tennessee State in the early '70s...this is the team that had Too Tall Jones, Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam and another guy who made it big in the NFL...the entire team came out and couldn't have walked any slower if they tried. It seemed to take forever...you could see all the emotion of the other team almost visually disappear.

The game was over before the coin flip took place.

I'm just ashamed that there are so many Star Trek fans who root for the Vols. 2001 was a sorry movie and only someone who wears a pocket protector every day would think differently:rock: And the idiot who tired to compare Rocky Top to that song should have his Vol fan card revoked.

I stand by earlier statments about the mascot being a man wearing tights in a chicken costume and the fight song is a show tune from the 60s.

Also, most people are familiar with the song from 2001: A Space Odyssey because Ric Flair used it as his intro....WOOOOOOOOOOO

That is one of the strangest noises I have ever heard in my entire life... It was like a dying bird and elephant yelp, just strange... Their speaker system needs some work, it was super loud and then kind of struggle to hear 5 seconds later

The "song" was written by Strauss in the late 1800s. It's called Also sprach Zarathustra.

2001 is a classic sci-fi film, yes, but it's considered a classic film regardless of genre.

Having said that, I'll now tip my hat to the gatekeeper of Vol fan culture. :hi:

Majors always seemed to have some gamesmanship about which team was coming out first. I remember a game where the band stood in the T playing the fight song over and over because neither team wanted to be out first. Finally Johnny led the Vols out and of course we won

No problem with the team coming out before or during our entrance -- just not coming out and running thru the band like bama did

I didn't know Ric Flair's song was made into a movie! (Jk)

It has to be one of the lamest things like that in the country......but what do I know.....I always thought it would be cool to hear the report of several shots of rifle fire at Neyland.....like when your out in the country and hear a shotgun blast echo through the hollow

To some degree, yes. It's typically done in coordination with the home-team school. Therefore, in line with how the the Bama game down for us, running onto the field is done only after the visiting team gets the signal to do so.

But stop pretending that a dog wearing a coonskin hat is any better.

And the unofficial fight song is Rocky Top. Again, let's not act like we are the most civilized.

I love our "traditions" but don't see how ripping someone else's makes sense.

I'm pretty much positive that the team doesn't "decide" when to go out, but rather, is instructed by personnel that "NOW" is when you go.
