Weezer. I usually agree with everything you say, but there are a number of factors in recruiting players today because of NIL. The running basck’s coach has little to do with recruiting except for him having a coaching style and -land which allows the player to improve his individual talent to become the best he can be. The NIL package is the primary factor in signing football players today. De’Rail Sims is an excellent running back coach and other schools have shown interest in pulling him away from Tennessee . He has demonstrated that he can coach players who were not the highest rated back and coach them into NFL backs. In no way should he be dismissed because we fail to have a competitive NIL package for a specific player. It would be a failure, but I'd put the blame on De'Rail Sims. He's the RB coach. His job is to coach and recruit RBs. DGG is our top priority. If we miss, it's on him. Should he be fired? No idea. Depends on who he does bring in and how they do. But to have an in-state talent like DGG and miss is a failure, no matter how you look at it.
Why do people assume Ohio State will outbid us? They didn't for Sanders. And if DGG really is the #1 target in this class, I have to assume we'll be willing to match their NIL offer. If the money is equal, then relationship does come into play. And, if you reread my comment, I said Sims' fate rests on who he does bring in and how they perform. Thus far, who has Sims brought in at RB? Bishop predates him. No one behind Bishop has proven anything as of yet. Maybe they do this season, and if so, Sims deserves credit. But if it goes opposite, that falls on him too. Hell, I want the guy to succeed because that means we succeed. But results matter.Weezer. Not assuming anything, but based on past experiences, we have lost some very good players when schools like LSU, Miami, Ohio State, etc. pay a couple of million $$ above what we offered. Why do people assume Ohio State will outbid us? Only time will tell... Fans guaranteed that Cooper Witten was a Vol lock... I read yesterday that someone posted that Tennessee wasn't even in top two before he decided on Oklahoma, Texas A&M was the other team. When the money is equal or at least close to, then yes, relationship does become a factor.
Once OU hired Jason, it was obvious where Cooper was going. As far as TAMU being the other school, not shocking IMO. Close to home. Just because dad was a VFL doesn't mean son wants to be one. Plus, it seems like more than one former Vol was dissatisfied with the defense under Banks.Only time will tell... Fans guaranteed that Cooper Witten was a Vol lock... But he was. Kevin Simon said his son wasn't seriously considering Tennessee as long as Banks was DC. Now that Knowles is DC, kids are giving us a second look. Never had that chance with Cooper. As soon as OU hired dad, that was a foregone conclusion.Banks is no longer DC.
In case you missed it this offseason.
Extraordinary talent may cost more than standard revenue can cover. If you HOPE FOR GREAT PLAYERS OK, if you DEMAND IT you gotta step up for some extra. To that, my season tickets have doubled since White got here. I am also paying tuition for 3 as of this fall when are youngest enrolls. We have 1 huge Orange Bowl win that we were underdogs in, and two Bama home wins under Heupel. I personally think we are a few tweaks away from being elite. We may have made enough changes last season to accomplish that. Definitely think Heupel will be long term here now after seeing him make staff changes. I don't see why I can't wish for a RB coach that recruits elite as well?
I don't think it's an unreasonable ask given the cost to even go to a game. White has made this about money, without the results, while losing the best coach on campus that he did not hire. I am not a White fan personally. Many are. In truth, I know that he is doing the same thing as every other elite program. I dropped my basketball season tickets after they doubled in 3 years. Thankfully I saw Zeiglers whole career, and the Knecht year.
