Two things can be true.

1 We probably wouldn’t have made it without Nico.
2 We went in spite of the passing game in general and him in particular. The absolute poor quality of the backups is a reflection on Heupel. It’s not an endorsement of Nico.

2600 yards is not 3,000 and he had 19TDs. That is mediocre in todays college football. And yes, we won in spite of him. Teams loaded the box to stop Sampson and our run game. He had plenty of one on ones because of it to hit play action bombs and missed time and time again.

He was average at best in a Heupel and modern era offense. That is a fact.

Boggles the mind why he thought it was a good idea to leave to me? He has a decent year and he’s drafted and a pro player. Went to a much worse situation for less pay with less talent surrounding him. I bet he struggles mightily at UCLA this year.

I think his play and choices proved his lack of upside.

You can have all the talent in the world, but if you do not make good decisions on and off the field it will never work out.

This season will make a man or just another wannabe out of him. As you say the indications are he will struggle with less talent around him in a tough B1G.
