'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

It would be nice if Cade wanted to be part of the rebuild process, but we sold the last batch of legacies 5 years ago on being part of a rebuild process, and here we are starting the process over. Some kids want to be a part of the rebuild process, and others, as you say, want to take the easy route to playing on a championship team. I don't blame Cade. It is hard to tell a recruit, who has 3-4 years to play at the college level, that if he signs with us we can get this thing turned around in 2-3 years. In 2-3 years, hopefully we will be at the point where the Cade Mays will view UT as the easy route to a championship, but for now we are on the outside looking in.

This should make Vol fans appreciate players like Greg Emerson much more. Emerson could go to Clemson, Alabama or Georgia if he wanted to. He is not a legacy who lives in Knoxville either. Just a kid who stayed loyal to his in-state school and wasn't hopping bandwagons.

Absolutely. Think any Clemson fan will remember who Cade Mays was 10 years from now?

Hell no. There is a price to pay for spurning your hometown school. Maybe the chance to compete for a championship is worth it but... Does anyone in Knoxville give a damn when Harrison Smith is in town somewhere? But how about when it's Jason Witten?

Well said, and I agree, except for the timeline. Hate to be skeptical, but our administration added a year to the plan with the prolonged hiring fiasco.

Hope this class finishes ranked 18-20, but that will be TOUGH.

Example: We just offered Becton. Georgia quietly cut him lose last night, as he was their lowest rated commit. They need the room for Top 100 kids. That kind of tells you where we are.

In 2018, the talent deficit will be blatantly obvious, and tough to watch at times. We won’t start to make a dent in it until 2019.

I could care less where Mays goes. In general, recruits who like drama do that for a reason. His reasoning makes no sense. He wants to win championships yet committed to Jones but decided he couldn't play for UT as long as Jones was the coach?? Now, he doesn't want to play for UT because Jones isn't the coach and never gave the new staff a shot? He either loves the drama or is just making stuff up as he goes.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. 👍

How did Butch convince Cade to commit if Cade’s top concern is winning championships? Doesn’t add up. Butch must be the greatest recruiter of all time.

What had Butch done to show that he could get a team in title contention? He couldn’t even win the East with stacked teams when it was at its lowest point.

Cade committed after his freshman yr if I recall. Butch was the Hype at the time. He was bringing in stud or so we thought. All he knew wasn't tN. As he got older and realized Butch was a bad coach ruining the program he loved so much at the time he started opening up to guys that are winning now. Once you let Dabo in its hard to get him out

The whole 'it's all about winning a championship' is BS, IMO.. There is more going on here behind the scenes and we may never know all of it. Honestly I don't care if it ever comes to light because I'm guessing it involves a healthy dose of immaturity and butt hurt...

Worry about the ones we get.

The University of Tennessee will be just fine moving forward....

Yeah and not to toot my own horn but I hire a lot of people for jobs. Not just hourly wage jobs, but 100k+ salary jobs. And I’d never hire Cade if he goes elsewhere. Not that I’d for sure hire him as a former Vol later on, but I’d at least look at him. I’m sure other locals will be the same way. Call it wrong, I don’t really care. My mind won’t change on that. Now, other local kids I wouldn’t hold that against them as much as a longtime commit and legacy guy... especially if UT didn’t want them terribly bad. But the way Cade was cool with a lame duck staff and AD but NOW that we’ve made improvements he’s all of a sudden not interested.... I don’t want a guy who isn’t going to be loyal to my company. He’s the kind of guy who will only be loyal to whatever the hot thing is at the time rather than big picture. I know he’s only 17 but he has to understand what he’s doing to career opportunities in this area later on, or his dad needs to tell him. Hopefully if he goes to Clemson he plans on living there his entire life.

I am in no way attacking Cade or his character, but he seems very snarky on twitter. Not sure you want that type of attitude on your team. He obviously doesn’t want to be here, and I don’t want some one here if they don’t want to be. Go vols! And good luck, Cade. If you just so happen to read this lol

I have stated my case. I will leave this thread alone until early signing period. I just hate all the negativity in here thinking we will never get Cade. I mean we just recommitted Alontae Taylor mind you.

Maybe I haven't been a Vol fan long enough for BVS to impact me like it has most of you here (so it seems). I don't know. My opinion is that we end up getting Cade Mays.

You have been wrong on literally everything you have posted on this board.

Cade's been flashing those paw print gloves for weeks. He'd probably be taunting much more if his parents let him. The concern isn't losing Cade; it's how successfully Clemson is using negative peer recruiting to recruit TN kids.

These former TN commits and legacies have turned viciously against UT. They call Catholic HS Clemson Catholic and think they have it on lockdown.

Why is that?

Wow, ignorance has no bounds I guess. You think everyone who graduates from Clemson stays in Clemson. They actually have a very nice network called P.A.W. and it does everything from writing resumes to networking CEO’s for their players. If he chose UGA, the city of Atlanta is sitting there with world possibilities with a lot of UGA grads running the businesses. Congrats on working in HR tho. Thumbs up.

ha, as if hardly any of these kids are seriously concerned with their post-football lives when they commit somewhere.

Some are, sure. Barnett majored in International Business and TKJr is in Biomedical Engineering.

But the overwhelming majority are just looking for their paper. Both bachelors and NFL payout.

We are also all of a sudden in the mix for about six 5* kids that never even thought about Tennessee before Pruitt started. But that doesn’t fit your narrative, I know. Maybe we pull a few and maybe not. I’m not going to judge Pruitt on roughly a 30 day window to tie together this class after a 4-8 season from hell. But just the fact that big time kids from Cali and other places all of a sudden have us in their top 3 or top 5 is extremely impressive.

I don’t work in HR. I own or have share in multiple businesses. I don’t have to answer to anyone, especially you or any other snowflakes who are offended by everything people do or say.

He doesn't know Pruitt well enough? That's interesting. Up until a couple of weeks ago had been committed to UT for over 2 years. How well could he have gotten to know those other 3 coaches while he was committed to UT. Just say you want to play for a winner and be done with it.
