'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

That's how it is though & it won't change. When you're talking about the elite programs of the country, most can offer the same thing regarding tradition, facilities, fan base, etc etc. An extremely small number of kids commit to a school just because it's their "dream school".

The difference maker is the coaches/coaches on staff that have developed the best relationships & proven they can win at a high level.

Not true. Kids will go to Bama and always have because it’s Bama. Same for Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma etc. Clemson is NOT a top program. At all. They’re a flash in a pan because of Dabo and a weak conference with Miami and FSU being nowhere what they used to be. FSU and Miami are the top programs in the ACC. Clemson is just good RIGHT NOW.

A lot of out of state elite kids are going to Bama because of Saban, and they know he will have great assistants on staff that can get them to the NFL. And Clemson may not have great blue blood tradition, and may be a flash in the pan, as you say, but these kids are committing to play for the school for 3-4 years, not 30-40 years, so they are not likely to care about traditions. They want a HC who will give them the best shot at the next level.

jeez. just when you thought it was over. somebody cracks a door.

if he doesn't sign next week....look out.

he wants to be an EE though. what's the latest dates he could enroll for spring semester for UT UGA and Clemson?

i find it a little hard to believe that he'd not enroll at UGA or clemson just to let us recruit him all over again, and then sign with one of those two schools and miss the spring semester?

what am i missing?

He doesn't have to sign anything to be an EE. He can just enroll wherever he wants. He can sign the financial aid agreement. That holds his spot and gives him the power.

Holding out hope he signs. There were rumors swirling when he decommitted that he was pushing/hoping for a quick turnaround on the coaching vacancy. With the way it played out it could have been a factor in him leaving TN out of his top 3. Have heard from various places that it is a 50/50 at this point, but sending in the big guns cant hurt.

Mom is the one the coaches have to win with here. Otherwise it’s no chance for sure.

Very interesting if he chooses not to sign next week.

Not trying to be a UT homer and I'm fine with whoever he chooses but....

Cade is a recruit that any school WILL make room for so this is honestly the best decision for him and the schools recruiting him.

He can take a little more time and be absolutely sure so that whoever he chooses, Clemson, UT, UGA, etc, they should feel very confident that his decision has been well thought out and right for him.

Not convinced Clemson is the best fit for Cade. Remember; Hyatt was a 5* recruit.

WalterFootball.com: 2018 NFL Draft: Offensive Tackle Rankings

Mitch Hyatt, OT, Clemson
Height: 6-5. Weight: 295.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Projected Round (2018): 3-5.
12/9/17: Hyatt has been disappointing in 2017, getting pushed around regularly. Even undersized defensive ends have had success winning with power against Hyatt. He clearly needs to get stronger for the NFL. Hyatt also has had problems with speed rushers, including the edge rushers from Miami in the ACC Championship.

Some team sources say they have graded Hyatt as a fourth-rounder for the 2018 NFL Draft. If he continues to struggle, they will drop the grade to Round 5. That being said, they noted the huge demand for tackles could cause a team to reach on Hyatt higher than where he belongs. Returning for his senior year to get stronger could end up helping his draft grade.

9/1/17: Hyatt played well in 2016 and did his job to keep Deshaun Watson healthy. Hyatt had an impressive freshman season as the blind-side protector for Watson in 2015 as well. Not only did he help protect Watson, Hyatt did a nice job of opening holes for Wayne Gallman.

Hyatt could use more strength for the NFL, but he is still a young player with time to develop. Hyatt also could be a candidate to move inside as a pro.

Mitch Hyatt was named a second team AP all American two days ago. I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into what a dude who runs a nfl mock draft has to say.

Re-read the quote.

yep. completely missed the last couple lines.:hi:

Quote:
Per sources at Catholic, Pruitt and Fulmer’s pitch to Cade during their visit at his high school was not a high pressure sales pitch or negative recruiting against Clemson or why he shouldn’t go there. All they’ve asked is that Cade choose to not sign during the early signing period so that he can get more familiar with the staff and truly get recruited by them. They understand it’s tough to build a relationship in a few weeks. They’ve asked him to let them recruit him after the dead period and if he still wants to go elsewhere, they will respect his choice. Great tactic and it wouldn’t hurt him at all. He can simply sign financial aid agreements to his top 3 choices, then enroll in mid-Jan before signing in February.

Not every recruit has the juice that a 5* OT has. Plus you have to be an EE to do this.

I just mean not sign the NLI. Any recruit can "commit" to a university and sign the financial aid agreement and show up in time for the semester. It gives them flexibility in case they change their mind or there's a coaching change or anything like that.

You're right though that only the top guys would be able to do it. If a 3* tried it he just be told he doesn't have a spot anymore.

I get tired of people telling me to move on that Cade is not coming. Half of this site believed that Gruden was coming. If they get to believe that....... I damn sure get to believe Cade is coming until the ink is dry elsewhere.

A high four-star recruit tried this with Saban at Alabama a couple years ago and lost his spot!

Only reason Cade would delay is if he truly wanted to be a vol so if he did it he wouldn't be worried about who attempted to drop his spot as he would know we had one

Poster on VQ on meeting

"Lasted close to 4 hours. Went well, don't know who he is going to pick or if it changes his mind. Fulmer was there"

Doubt very seriously that UGA or Clemson would try that with a consensus top 10 player - especially an OL. IF Mays wants a spot in December or January or February, a spot would be made for him.
