'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Amari was trashing UT to Tee because of Butch, so now has he flipped the script and trashing UT to Cade because of firing Butch??

Culture, friends at Clemson, brother, so many to list. He's being told all the right things right now. We NEED him, but its such a long long shot.

Another reason he would choose Clemson over UGA is to lessen some of the backlash by not picking a rival school. If he goes to clemson it really doesn't bother us beyond missing out a a good player. At least not competing against said player

“The only two coaches that would bring him here were Les Miles or John Gruden because both have won championships. Cade wants to win championships. He has grown up seeing Tennessee delve into mediocrity despite staff changes, good recruiting classes, etc. Cade doesn’t want to get here and be a part of the cycle. He wants to go somewhere where the staff has proven they can win championships. I think part of him wants to hedge his bets in that if Tennessee is good, he would be very happy for this program. He just is doing what’s best for him. He’s seen recruits sold for years the premise of “bringing Tennessee back to greatness” and something always stops it. We are all excited about the hire, I know I am. I believe in Jeremy Pruitt. But at the end of the day there is a ton of uncertainty with a staff like this especially on the offensive side of the ball, and Cade wants to go somewhere that he knows is stable.

I don’t jump in threads to defend him all the time because at the end of the day him wanting to go somewhere else will just rub some people the wrong way. I am sure Cade told Phil what would keep him here, but Phil went a direction he felt was best for the program as a whole. Nothing wrong with that and most likely a great decision. Again I don’t know what Cade told Phil in their meeting but I can only assume he let Phil know the 2 names that would have kept him here. I support Cade 100% for wanting to go to a program that has stability. I’m hoping for Clemson over Georgia at this point but I am not sure which he’ll decide on”

Still hard to believe we lost Mays. This stings. And everybody can go on and on with we will be fine without him him all they want. This guy has talent. Our OL is worse than a 7-11 chili dog. We needed Mays badly.

Need him badly for sure but whatever at this point. Got to move forward and we can win championships with or without him with the staff Pruitt isnputting together

PS- I have no earthly idea what Mays is thinking.

I would say at this point there may be an issue of having to eat words. He's probably said he would never sign with UT... and would have to back track quite a bit before even considering it.

I feel comfortable that UT's new staff plus Fulmer will give the Vols their best possible chance of bringing him back into the fold. If they can't... then there's nothing to complain about.

PS- If you are one of those who argued that Jones only needed "more time"... here's an example of why you were wrong. He underperformed his roster the first two years. Many were willing to chalk that up to the roster and system implementation. But the evidence of poor coaching and player development only got worse over the next 3 years. As predicted 5 years ago, recruits took notice and stopped listening to Jones. Some shut UT down completely.

Whether Dooley, Jones, Pruitt, or someone else... YOU CANNOT "give them more time". A new coach has a 3-4 year window to prove they can win big. If they don't, recruits turn to those who do and to the next "new kid in town".
Honestly, if you know FB, you know after year 2 if you have the right guy or not. It does not take 3 to 4 years.

This is nonsense because Georgia hasn’t won a national championship either.

He wants the best shot at a ring, and he's not really interested in being part of a rebuild. No one at UT can honestly tell him he will have a realistic shot at a ring at UT in the next 4 years. Clemson most certainly can and UGA likely can as well. Just the way it is. Good luck to him.

The championship stuff sounds like an excuse. One of real commits probably called him out and he got his redneck panties all tangled up.

Didn’t someone point out the other day that every single coach on the new staff has either played or coached in an Conf/SEC/National championship?

lol sounds legit.

Les would be saddled with the same problem pruitt has and gruden, who has never won a college championship would still have his work cut out for him.

I don't care one bit what the kid does. He obviously doesn't care about the Vols or he'd want to be part of the solution. Just go ahead and commit and gtfo. We need players that want this challenge not the ones that want the easy way out.

I call BS on this decommitment.... Did this kid really think that Butch Jones was going to become a National Championship coach at Tennessee???? There's a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

I hope Cade reconsiders and comes to help Tennessee become a national contender again. I for one though, don't believe this " going somewhere to be a national champ" crap!!:crazy::loco:

I understand wanting to go where the offense is already proven.
But, LSU’s offense struggled for the last few years that Les Miles was there.
And, I have a hard time giving weight to any post about Gruden.
I’d be far more likely to buy this without the claim that he told Fulmer it was Miles or Gruden or bye.

If championships is what he wanted, why did he stick with Jones for so long? Makes no sense.

It has to be something else.

With the year butch had the air was out of the tire. Couple that with a f job by currie and jim haslam,Cade could see a train wreck. He should at least listen to Pruitt however.
