'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

What exactly happened to make him decommit? I know we had a bad season but I thought his love for TN would keep him committed.

The weird thing is neither schools he’s thinking about have any recent history of putting o-linemen in the NFL. The last UGA lineman drafted was in 2011. Clemson’s history is even worse. UGA has Sam Pittman though, so that will change.

Meh. I understand getting in the S&C program a few months earlier, yada, yada, yada. Most O Linemen are not physically or mentally ready to be productive in 4 months or 8 months. It's a disservice to them to play as true freshmen 9 times out of 10 and it reeks of desperation. We can make a D lineman an O lineman in a year. Playing against peers with the same size and ability is foreign to all but a few. Mays should redshirt no matter where he goes.

I actually hate redshirting blue chip OL. Your better to play sometimes even in limited action. The physicality and how you learn to block in college is a far cry from high school. The push pull and verticals sets along with in depth hand placement and work is different from most high schools where strength and staying low is enough. Getting them here for spring ball puts them in a position to be a rotational player in the fall and a starter by sophomore year. Imo footwork, handwork, and technique was a spring football focus over spring over plays and assignments. That’s why spring would be paramount for a young OL.

Come fall it’s about the playbook and coverages much more.

Don't forget, starting next year, we'll be able to play freshmen in 4 games before redshirting them.

We can play every player, and then see what we got and go from there.

Would be great to have Cade due to his talent and legacy - not for his stars. He is not near the finished product that Trey Smith was coming out of HS. If he passes there are other quality O-linemen available that will work hard and get the job done equally well. Don't want a guy who is not totally sold out on what CJP is doing here. Good luck to him wherever he goes.

Ohhhhh I did forget this. Doesn’t matter which games either does it?

Nope. Just can play in up to 4 before a redshirt is burned.

Way I see it? Bring them in, let them play in OOC games, get their feet wet, see where they need to work on their game at, then redshirt them, and bring them back as a RS Fr with 4 games experience.

Not good for Catholic to be a feeder program for Clemson. I know we have some ex-UT guys on staff there. You'd think it would help us out.

Mays (6-4, 300), ranked No. 15 overall, is slated to spend this weekend at Georgia before signing somewhere next week.

That somewhere doesn’t project to be Tennessee after the legacy and former-longtime Vols commitment went hunting this weekend.

New coach Jeremy Pruitt and offensive line coach Will Friend went to his school Friday to try to convince him to take an official visit this past weekend.

No luck.

There are also questions as to whether Mays will even allow Pruitt and new athletics director Phillip Fulmer to conduct an in-home this week.

Swinney still has the in-home in his pocket, with this week or Sunday remaining as possibilities.

Georgia presents a serious threat.

But this is the one Clemson wants, and badly.

We’ve repeatedly characterized the Tigers as the leader in the clubhouse.

Clemson rivals

Sucks too because I went FullSwanson right after Fulmer was back as AD and bet a Clemson buddy a happy hour round on Mays signature. This was when we didn't even have a coach! Never go FullSwanson when you don't have a coach lol.

Love you Ron.
