'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

It’s amazing Clemson (and their winning) can obscure the fact that they have produced even less NFL offensive lineman than UT. Bet you didn’t know that Dabo has had exactly two lineman drafted. And only one that he recruited. Even with five extra years on the job, this success rate is basically the same as Butch Jones. At least Butch and Mahoney produced a 1st round pick.

So Clemson cannot sell NFL preparation and draft $, as part of the package. It’s Dabo selling team chemistry and winning.

Nobody is dropping hints boss. I’m not sure why the other thread was deleted. The last thing the family wants to do is lead Tennessee on and then pull the rug out from underneath them at the end. Right now, IMO Tennessee is on the outside looking in. Could they turn things? Anything is possible but Clemson and Georgia are way out in front imo.

It's like you start dating this good looking girl. After a while she puts on some weight and stops wearing makeup because she comfortable with you. Being young andvinto the hot new item you break up with her. After flirting for a bit you notice a smoking hot girl in the corner. You walk a little bit closer and notice it's your ex. She decided to hit the gym and lose the extra baggage and it worked magnificently in her favor. So the choice as the young lad now is do you go back to your once again hot looking ex or keep flirting with crowd?

He has also been close enough to see the negativity in the fan base ... EmptyNeyland, boos directed towards the players and the bad side of this fan base.

He is probably also smart enough to know that if expectations are met starting next year - it will all start again.

Maybe he wants to go to a school where the atmosphere does not turn toxic at the first sign of failure.

He's fooling himself if he thinks any elite school doesn't react that way to a total failure on Jones level. Hell UGA has been trying to run Richt for years and finally did it. His team wasn't 4-8 when he walked.

I 'll call BS from that angle.

Tennessee was in the school on Friday. They are trying to get in the the home next week with coach Pruitt and coach Fulmer. We will see what the Mays family elects to do.

As Austin has stated, the hire of Pruitt or even Fulmer to AD doesn't mean the Vols are suddenly back in the hunt. Right now, Tennessee is trying to get their attention enough to become a factor in Cade's decision. Doing that in a week is the challenge.

Since it looks like we aren't getting him is it safe to say I think he is overrated? He will probably be good, but not irreplaceable. Not another Trey Smith, JMO.

I NEVER said they wouldn't get in the home. I said it wasn't a slam dunk for that to happen. We will see, but like I said the last thing the family wants to do is lead Pruitt or just the program and fans in general along if they aren't giving Tennessee a hard listen and look.

Just clearing all of this up.

Tennessee is not in Mays' top 3 that he gave out at the state championship game.

Right now he does not have an official visit set to Tennessee. He's hunting this weekend in West Tennessee. Next weekend, Mays is taking his official visit to Georgia.

Tennessee's Will Friend, and Tyson Helton was at Catholic on Friday and visited with Mays for 30 minutes or so.

Right now, Tennessee is trying to get in the home with Fulmer and Pruitt. We will see if that happens.

Mays is a mid-term enrollee and plans to sign on December 20th.

Damn this early enrollment!! If we had more time I could see us flipping him back. A week is not likely, considering our staff isn’t even complete.

Pruitt and this staff have to make a positive impression on the family regardless. Cade has a little brother that will be garnering some attention soon enough and you want to make sure that door remains open even if Cade goes elsewhere.

Very good point.

Is the reason he longer wants to come here because we fired Jones or is it another reason?

He said he wants to win championships. He must not believe he can do that here. I believe he's just heard and seen to much negatives to get the taste out of his mouth.

O Linemen being early enrollees serves no purpose imo. Even the Bucks need a year in a P5 weight room. They would be better served to wait and sign in February, redshirt the next fall and be ready to play with guys their own size and strength. Trey Smith and a few others notwithstanding, most freshmen linemen are not SEC ready. Get Fulmer in the house. Dad surely remembers toiling along on the D Line for a year or so and getting his PT on the O line his junior and senior year.
