'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Under Chaney and Pittman he may have because at the time they wereracking up the really good OL guys from JJ, Stone, Big Zach to Tiny. So never would've happened isn't necessarily true. But I'd say it would've been 50/50. Offensive recruiting wasn't a problem remember they dominated offense and were horrible on defense.

All those guys you mentioned were in Dooley's first or second recruiting class. After those guys he and his staff recruited nothing at OL. Literally zero OL in 2012 class. So we all want Butch gone but don't be pumping Dooley's tires acting like he was recruiting great.

I've wondered about the timing of his decommitment. Why not just continue to take your visits and wait until a new coach is named. What has happened in the last couple of weeks to push him to publicly decommit? I wonder if concussion gate may have something to do with it.

Possibly, but none of the staff will be here when he starts school next year. Are you getting at that he didn’t want to be linked to the school with that going on?

He probably wanted to make it official going into his OVs so he could move forward cleanly. The coaches knew it was coming.

Some have speculated that he would only publicly decommit if he found another school he felt good enough about to eventually commit to. My gut has always believed he ends up at Tennessee because he and his family are life long VOL fans; but after his UGA visit, I'm now starting to wonder if Georgia might have a chance. One thing that hit me yesterday is that Cade's dad is familiar with Pittman and Chaney from when they coached at Tennessee; probably even had conversations with them during that time period. My guess is he's probably very comfortable talking with both of them. It sure looked that way from the pictures I've seen from Cade's visit.

I still think it's going to be a battle between ND, Clemson and Georgia. OSU is probably too far away. If Tennessee were to somehow get a new HC, OC and OL coach hired in the next 40 days, Tennessee may still have a shot.

Miramir vol said it was the last straw for Cade.

Most fans knew it was coming too. Not sure why even is acting suprised. Oh nevermind, it will be the same way when we dont hire Gruden.

I don't think there are any defenders of Butch remaining. If there are I've missed them.

Not my point. There are people blaming fan reaction to Butch, referring to Cade being friends with his son.

That is BS. The fans reaction is just that, a reaction. It's what they are reacting to that's the problem.

I agree with you. Cade is fleeing a sinking ship. I just wish he'd hold off and give the new staff a shot. He's an EE but he doesn't have to sign in December. If a school says to me, a five star OL, that you need to sign in December or you may lose your spot, I'm shaking his hand and saying thanks and walk out of his office. But that's me.

Someone I know that says he's got inside sources (yes plural) in the Clemson football program, told me that CM has already committed to Clemson and they will hold off with an announcement. Not sure if I believe him because he knows I am a UT man, but he insisted his info is correct. I hope not.:banghead2::banghead2:

Better than UGA.

Here's the dilemma for Cade: he wants to play in the SEC, he has good friends pushing him to come to Clemson and play with them, he has connections with several coaches at UGA and both he and his brother would like to play together at the school their dad played for. I think he decommitted because he's undecided and doesn't have firm loyalties anywhere right now.

I take that as somewhat promising news.

I've said on here that I expect Mays to end up at TN after the coaching change because even tho he was looking, Tn was still out front for him and his family. He wants to be a vol and his family wants him at Tn. Now, after he has seen other schools and was receptive to being recruited, his view has become cloudy. That said, Tennessee is not the team to beat today. If NSD was today, he would pick UGA. He/his dad is the ones who reached out to Pittman and they have talked nearly everyday since.

I still believe UT has a better than 50% chance if the OL coach is a grand slam. It needs to happen Quickly however. If Mays makes it to his OV with GA w/o knowing who the Tn OL coach is, its over. I still feel there will be curves in this recruitment however. Ball is in TN's court.

Currie needs to act

There is pros and cons to waiting till the end but one of the cons is there won't be an opportunity to get the recruits on campus for a game and promise them a better tomorrow, a better Tn. With them coming to the Vandy game, they can't make those promises with a sitting coach.

Yeah, this early signing period puts a lot more pressure on hiring a new coach quickly. I hope Currie understands that. If we wait until January to hire someone, mays is gone, and a lot of the top guys will be also.

I'd bet on us having a new coach by the 1st of December. Don't let guys OV for LSU or Vandy games. Make them come to town in December before the early signing day.

Zero chance he waits till January, this eliminating any NFL coaches for the job. Can't go past the first signing day w/o a coach. Ideally a coach would be fired after LSU, giving leeway to hire the new coach the first day after the season giving 3 weeks to fill out a staff and 3 weeks to salvage the recruiting class. Could be 6-7 SEC teams hiring a new coach, it's going to be chaos. Florida definitely has jumped the shark on everyone.
