'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Don't really blame Cade Clemson is a contender year in and year out while we are a dumpster fire

I hate when people say this. Yes we can blame him. He's a kid from Knoxville, TN whose father played for the University of Tennessee. He of all people shouldn't care who the coach is. He should be loyal to the university as the son of a VFL.

It would be incredibly weak if he bails now because Butch Jones won't be the coach next year.

There is no way that TN fires Butch before the end of the season in my humble opinion...so yes I consider him 100% gone.

So now you know not only where Cade Mays is going but also what TN is gonna do with Butch Jones?

You might wanna try and prove yourself first before pretending to be an insider.

I don't think it's all bc Butch won't be here I think it's bc he knows Butch is history and has no clue who we hire

If you are that close to the situation, what is the reason you consider him gone? That Butch will be fired or that Butch might not be fired!

I completely agree with you here. You see other recruits like Emerson put out tweets that they are 100% still committed. Those are the guys I like.

This is incredibly difficult for me, but I agree 100%. Cade bailing on Tennessee because of a coaching change makes no sense to me.....especially when the coach who's about to get fired sucks and is the reason for the mess that is Team 121. He's a legacy who shouldn't care who the coach is. He's the last guy I would've thought would be waffling and looking around.

Agree. Cade Mays owes Tennessee nothing, but if your commitment hinges on who the head coach is going to be, then you had no business committing as a high school sophomore. Especially with a father who has been thru the process, he has to know a lot can happen in 3 years to commit solely to a coach.

I would say there are emotions involved. Don't discount the affect of being friends with the Jones family thru being classmates at Catholic.

No doubt there are emotions involved. But, Tennessee was Tennessee long before the Jones family, and will be long after they're gone. And being loyal to Tennessee doesn't mean being disloyal to Jones, and particularly his son.

UT once hired Derek Dooley. I find no fault in someone not signing away their football future to a coachless team with that history.

Have any of you ever thought that maybe the stupidity of a fan base that supports its own team by constantly spewing negativity and boos when adversity happens is turning recruits off?

Oh yea, definitely the fans fault. Butch has nothing to do with it..

If Mays really cares about Jones and family, he should stay solidly committed, because this recruiting class is pretty much all Jones has going for him at the moment.

Higgins has been doing a lot of leg work on this one. Mays is too far gone now. He won't announce the decommit until after his Clemson visit in a few weeks.

So Higgins left because of Butch (wasn't using/developing WR well), and Mays is going to leave (at Higgins urging) because Butch is leaving. That confuses me.

Young man would do well to let the dust settle and emotions die down before making a plan. Clemson will still take him late if he doesn't like the hire.

If he was willing to commit to Tennessee with Butch Jones as its head coach he should just about be willing to commit to anybody Tennessee would hire. He may not win any type of championship here with the next coach but he had to know he wasn't gonna do that with Jones as the coach anyway. If he comes to Tennessee, lives up to his billing and plays well, he'll be an early round NFL draft pick.

And again, his father played here, he's a legacy...I just assumed that's why he committed to play in Knoxville....for the program, for the University, not a transient, failed head coach.

Everyone relax and let the kid sort this out. He and his family will make the decision that is best for them.

Yes, they will sort it out, and they will make what they hope is the best decision for them. That really goes without saying doesn't it?

As for relaxing...really? Why should we relax when Clemson is trying to poach our best recruits?

Because there is nothing you can do about it unless you're writing the biggest check.
