'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Anybody else see the video of him slamming the kid at the camp the other day? Loved seeing that

Yeah that was awesome. I don't really know what to look at when evaluating linemen and I know these camp settings are better for the Dlinemen, but a couple of his reps in that video didn't look great to me.

The OG Jamaree Salyer looks excellent in that video. He handled his business against Robert Cooper, who in turn abused a couple of the other guards they matched up on him. That's a dude I wouldn't mind getting on campus.

That's a really tough setting for an offensive lineman against a speed rusher. You put them on an island and then ask the 320-pound guy to keep up with the 250-pound guy in terms of quickness. Also, DEs are allowed to go wherever they want without context or responsibility - don't have to worry about setting an edge or double-teams or whether TEs and RBs are chipping or staying home to block.

With all of that in mind, Cade looked very good. He got beaten on a couple of speed rushes and one inside move that I saw, but this is part of that context I was talking about. It's harder to do this as a DE when there are other bodies on the field and you have responsibilities.

Anyway, he needs to continue work on his agility and balance but he looks good. Wish he could face elite competition like this more often... he'd learn more and improve faster. But that day will come.

I'm down for LT. RT would be too easy for him. Cade likes the battle and has the tools. He won't settle. Give him more time to develop. He knows what to do.

A great RT can be just as key. It's not a matter of "settling" or ego or manhood. I think he's a massive thing you want to unleash. I see him mashing the fool on the strongside where they still do pass protection btw. :wink2:

These drills always favor the D-Lineman...in a game, they would only have about a fourth of the space to work with. Cade looked great..he'll gain agility as he learns to work with his size.

violent. seems perfect for RT (run blocker/mauler) more than LT (pass blocker/finesse)
