'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Some private message off of a social media account.
Some are saying it's fake but the only reason I've read is because you can fake things.

But Idc, pick one. Mislead coaches or mislead friends or mislead VQ or told our other target to follow him to Auburn or the fake or not fake message.

I still want him here over Auburn but never gonna pretend to like the way he's handled it or make silly excuses for him.
He did a complete 180 from what he has been saying for months and then threw our DL coach under the bus because her knew he would get criticized.

Speaking of bagmen/boosters, do any of you guy remember Doc Overholt from back in the 80s? Playing summer pickup BB at his place over off of Walker Springs with a bunch of UT BB and FB players back in the day opened my eyes to all this stuff.
Know nothing about booster activities but know him to be a genuinely good guy.

He was a very good guy, I heard later iirc that he had to be distanced from the program because of some AA snooping (mind you this was over thirty years ago) I left Kville in 88, and didn't see any of those guys ever again. Some of the guys I played with were buddies with the UT athletes that would come over and play pickup games in the afternoons. That is how I first became aware of how things work. Those kids should be, and are taken care of.

What's to stop a player from taking the bag of money and then go elsewhere? I mean, there's literally nothing Auburn could do about it. One reason amongst many that the bagman theory makes no sense.
Generally it’s not the kid that’s the issue. Parents have to sign for them. It’s not a payment; it’s payments.

I know him to be a big hearted guy for a lot of people who are definitely not athletes. Still in Knoxville and doing well.

You may have played ball with Tony Robinson before he fell victim to the SI curse.

It was...my fam moved back to Kville from Texas in spring of 85. I was like 17 at the time and didn't have a clue who those guys were. We lived over there off of Walker Springs rd, and I just saw a whole bunch of guys playing BB on a fancy outdoor court with lights one night, and pulled in and asked if I could play too. There were usually 15-20 guys showed up 2-3 nights a week...I did not find out till later that most of them were on UT teams if one kind or another. I had zero clue who TR even was till much later...lol.

Overholt got UT in some hot water over benefits provided to UT athletes, I remember the reprimand over Willie Burton driving one of the Doctor’s cars. What kept it from being worse was that he also provided cars (to drive) to non-athletes, most notably one of the fraternities.

He must have had one hell of a car collection.

Bewm..they never found out about Tony's brand new red corvette...😉 I can't remember exactly how it happened, but iirc when Tony got in trouble, Doc somehow got the Corvette back and it was put in the garage that was over there by the court. I saw that with my own eyes, one of the BB walkons I was buddies with showed me.

Anyway..like I said originally...it opened my eyes to how things are done. I never got the sense back then that guys were "bought" and encouraged to act like idiots like it seems to be now...It was more of a taking care of poor guys thing as far as I could see.

I also want to add here..I liked the guy, he really did seem like a really nice person the few times I saw him. I did not get a slimy creep feel from Doc at all..

Anyways...that is all I'm gonna say about that.

Have said all along that we need him and can't afford to blow him off.
But I have zero respect for him personally, after the "TN is the only school that tried to pay me" comment.

What would have been a "boom" from me would be relegated to "maybe he'll actually keep his word..this time".

Can't speak for others but promise there will be no backpedaling on my part.

Okay I've been out of the loop for a few days. When did he say that about us trying to pay him? Wow, I missed a lot in there it seems.

couple weeks ago. screen shot of a tweet or DM saying we're the only school that tried to pay him. then it was debated whehter or not it was fake.....don't think that was proven one way or the other.

Ah, thank you. I suspect we'll never know one way or another.
