The Scout
Volquest caught up with Greeneville Head Coach Eddie Spradlin to get his thoughts on Anderson.
“You know, first and foremost he comes to work every day,” Spradlin said of what stands out about Anderson. “He’s a kid that really has bought into what we do in the weight room. It doesn’t matter if it was during their track season or basketball season or during the football season, he shows up and busts his butt every day. And then on top of that, he’s blessed with a lot of skill and ability.”
Anderson has elite speed and is a state champion on the track.
“Yeah, obviously mention the speed, but you know that work ethic, he’s got a natural talent to really track down the football,” Spradlin added. “Does a really good job of just learning. He is really coming into his own in the man coverage stuff and really buying into defensive side of the ball. He is really explosive when he has a football in his hands.”
Anderson has continued to grow as a leader as well.
“He is a guy that has shown up since he has been here and leads by example with everything he does. He goes as hard as he can through everything. He has really tried to set himself a part by being a vocal leader this spring and summer. You know how hard it is for a kid to be a vocal leader, so he is trying to step into that, and it has really helped the football team with what he has done.”
What does this mean for Tennessee?
The Vols got Anderson to campus back in the spring, and after measuring him in, they quickly pulled the trigger to offer. He has great length and elite speed, but he is still somewhat raw as a defensive back. The potential for him is something the staff certainly likes, and as he gets developed, he should see the opportunity to play multiple positions in the secondary for Tennessee, with a focus primarily being at cornerback. Anderson’s speed alone should allow him to have a chance to make plays on special teams early, and as he develops as a defensive back, the Vols will know exactly what they are getting in him as they refine his technique.
So what’s next?
Is Tennessee finished for the day? We will see. Legend Bey is expected to announce a decision on Saturday night and Tennessee is very much in play for the four-star from North Forney. There are a handful of other announcements in the coming days so make sure you tune into Volquest for all of your recruiting coverage needs.
