Not saying they should but they have a glaring need for young corners as it seems more trend toward safety and they’ve gone back to back to back classes with letting blue chip in-state corners leave 🤷‍♂️

I’m excited about the Colorado kid too but this is his fourth commitment in 3 years. He’s not exactly guaranteed to be here next year

Did they recruit Ondre Evans? Always hard to win a battle vs UGA. Tarrion Grant went to Purdue so clearly not many big time programs thought highly of him despite his ranking.

And I’m gonna guess Donovan Starr took the highest offer bc he’s at AUB. And you don’t go play for a creep like Hugh Freeze unless they’re paying you way more than anyone else.

Evans was different bc they liked him as a receiver. But I just don't get not recruiting Starr OR Harris

I wasn't trying to say the young DBs aren't impressing. Just Kaleb Beasley seems destined to end up at safety and any of the freshman DBs could end up at safety as bigger, more physical guys. I was just wondering why they hadn't pushed for premier local talent when the corner room is McCoy (draft year), McMurray (grad year), Gibson (entered portal at one point) and then a lot of unproven. I think Anderson could rise a lot this fall tho

Harris so far is the one miss from in-state this class.

But TN is way better at DB period in 2026 than it has been in a while.
Vonn Bell, Ramsey, Elder, and Foreman come to mind. 2012 I have think…

Anderson, Harris, Chaston Smith, Theodore, Hopkins are guys that could play CB for UT. And that’s just TN and there’s still more viable DB types in-state as well. Then there’s out-of-state guys of course.

Really wanted Harris. But there’s always going to be some late bloomer. Happens every single year.

I’m 2025 it was Tim Merritt. 6’2” 180 4.3 speed from Parker HS in Bham.

He was practicing at both this spring, no??

Edit:

Here it is from Vol spring practice #4

“Freshman cornerbacks Ty Redmond and Timothy Merritt are still skinny enough to look like freshmen, but they are both long athletes with some juice, and Thomas gave Redmond some props in the post-practice DB huddle the other day in a video the Vols posted on their social media accounts.”

I know Merritt played some Star early in in spring practice.

This staff likes guys they can move around. Merritt seems like one of those. So does Dylan Lewis (who was also at Star this Spring and looked good there).

I think Lewis worked his way into the #2 guy at Star and then that allowed them to move Beasley to challenge for the starting safety spot this fall.
