Haywood always has a lot of highly rated kids come out of there but, I don't think they ever play up to their rankings once they get to college

I believe WM is a solid DB coach and did a remarkable job last season, but it's also true he's a very average recruiter. We have not landed a single top 15 cornerback prospect since he's been here with Heup. Maybe that's cause we don't value that position NIL wise so it's not totally on him but it's a noticeable trend with our high school recruiting.

We are also still chasing Georgia so anytime you lose a top-100 in-state prospect to them that's a blow.

I’m not a huge WM defender…but how can anyone complain about how our DB’s played last season? WM did a great job with that group
Our secondary was definitely the best it’s been in years last year, but I think that’s very much in large part to having an elite DL and finding a diamond in the rough in Jermod McCoy

Rickey Gibson was also good. WM found him and McCoy both. Also, WM coaches the Star position. Boo was obviously good and Harrison really developed.

As a former Haywood graduate, I agree with this statement. Corey Moore who played at VaTech had a stellar career and of course cannot forget Tyrone Hines. Those two probably had the best careers.

Idk. Martinez definitely didn’t think of McCoy as a diamond in the rough. Martinez is also the reason he’s here. WM has got a lot of criticism some of it justified; last year we were damn solid at CB. Probably will be again this year. Retirement is in the near future for him. Probably after this year or next imo.

Yes…. Amazing job finding that freshman all American “diamond in the rough”

😐

Not a WM defender or hater (although he recruits like we’re a conference USA squad)…. But claiming JM was some find is comical.

He definitely doesn’t recruit the star power associated with recruits
We were pretty good their last year but as with any position outside of QB it could be better

🤨 we have some really bad evals and refruiters.

Not much the staff can do with fruiters, every program has them in their fanbase. Their lack of eval ability is well documented, and compounded by their unsupported faith in their own abilities. RE is in play as well, as in redundant. A real giveaway.
