'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Dude should have just kept his mouth closed instead of trying to defend someone that can't be defended. lol

If you're talking about D1conley, he works directly with a lot of these kids.

From all reports about Grimes, his personality is certainly a positive attribute.

But he's just not a football player.

I should've watched more of that game last night. I forgot Grimes was on the team. I would've loved to give an updated evaluation.

Kid has all the measurables. I mentioned very early in this thread that the times I've seen him he didn't do anything to set himself apart. Some of that could be teams running away from him I don't remember at this point.

I judge front 7 guys by there ability to find the football and Grimes seems generally underwhelming in that category.

It should also be noted that his offer list is not as extensive as some of the players listed behind him in state.

He's definitely a take but expectations should be tempered because he's seems to be a developmental high ceiling guy that will take a few years with S&C but can easily hold 50 to 60 more pounds and still look fit and trim.

from the sound of the VN recruiting experts, we should pass

Now that's showing real class. Not cool to say a high school kid sucks imo..
What does class have to do with a high school football player being seriously overrated or "sucking" (no pun intended)? If he sucks, he sucks. Plain and simple. Some people on here are a little too sensitive

Grimes strikes me as a kid who has ability but not the necessary mental make up. I.E. he doesn’t love football. Probably plays because his dad pushed him into it and it’s just something he’s always done.

Classic case of hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

Give me a less talented kid who lives an breathes football.

If he really is playing soft because he has offers then he must not really want it. If he really did he would have tried harder to get that bama committable offer he wanted. I don’t know that he is or isn’t since I don’t care to watch him but seems like several here have come away unimpressed with each watch

Grimes actually finished with more total tackles (4) last night than in any previous game but for the year, he still trails far behind 5 of his LB/DE teammates:
  1. Junior Colson (94 tackles, 8 sacks, 6.5 TFL)
  2. Avery Miller (66 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 TFL)
  3. Myles Dawson (58 tackles, 8 sacks, 10 TFL)
  4. Bryan Rice (48 tackles, 3 sacks, 12.5 TFL)
  5. Jordan Smith (45 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 7 TFL)
  6. Reggie Grimes (27 tackles, 7 sacks, 2.5 TFL)
He may be Tennessee's top-rated college prospect but at the HS level, Grimes isn't even one of Ravenwood's top 3 linebackers.

How in the world do you only have 27 tackles as a LB/DE..... I had over 50 tackles as a DB in High School..... and I had more TFL than he had.....

Conley is good. And at times is objective. I think its harder to be critical when you work with these kids directly. I get it he wants Grimes to be successful from everyone I’ve talked to he’s a much better person than football player.

This x1000.

He’s playing positions that normally relish contact and he just doesn’t seem to like hitting. With his frame and speed he should be blasting people.

Grimes is the type of player Butch would recruit just because of his star rating.

Most top schools are slow playing him for a reason.

Not hard to figure out.

This kid being the top rated in Tennessee kills whatever little belief I have in recruiting services or their stupid rankings..🤦‍♂️

I don't wanna trash him, he may end up a Vol and I'm sure the staff can get use out of him if they want him..but..dang 🤷‍♂️

Yep! 100% agree.
You ain’t the only one

Edit.......last night was the 3rd time I’ve seen him play. Still waiting to see something. Maybe he is “slow playing.” But I’m not sure I want that kind of guy on my team. Will he do the same in college??

He may receive double teams and special attention or teams try to avoid him at all costs. I really do not know but stats cannot be the end all for evaluating talent.
