It’s funny. The posters saying oh we need to move on are the same ones knocking people when they criticize the coaching staff. Apparently the staff likes this guy. But some of you think it’s time to move on.

So should we trust the coaches or not?

I disagree with moving on, and would mention its not like he’s quoted (to my knowledge) as being entirely against playing elsewhere, just that he has his preferences, and different teams are projecting him all over from wide receiver to safety to edge, so easy to see how he thinks what he wants should be attainable. Every kid thinks they know what they want. Most just want a shot to prove themselves. He has a good relationship with our coaches and the people around him that are Tennessee supporters, so I say sign him and let him figure it out when he gets here. If he has a level head on his shoulders, when he’s not getting closer to seeing the field at his position of choice, he’ll realize the coaches are right about his potential and switch to the position they see him performing best at to give him the greatest ultimate potential of a career in football. Is that not worth the one year risk when it comes to elite athletes?
If the posters who always say they would move on from a recruit for one reason or another got their way, we wouldn’t have a recruiting class…other than some spunky All District guys who say what they wanna hear because they don’t have options.

Per Chad Simmons

Joel Wyatt was originally set to announce his commitment on July 6, but he pushed that back. The four-star athlete out of Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland may not be uncommitted too much longer.

“I am getting close,” Wyatt said. “I am planning to commit before the season starts and I think I will be committed by the end of July. It is something I am hoping to do soon.”

If he had committed on July 6, we liked Tennessee’s position. The Vols still look to be trending but the Commodores are right there.

“Tennessee is recruiting me the hardest. Oklahoma is hitting me up every day, too. Tennessee is really working hard to get me. Their coaches always reach out and make me feel like a priority.”

Odds are Wyatt stays in-state if he commits this summer. He is eyeing a visit to Norman, but nothing is scheduled yet.

“I have to really think about the pros at each school and the flaws I see in them. It will come down to those things, the love I feel and my relationships with the coaches when I commit.”

Eric Berry was a once in a quarter century talent. That guy was special. Paid is the right thing to do there. Not sure this kid is of that caliber.
No he wasn’t, Mathieu, Ed Reed, Earl Thomas, and Sean Taylor all were on Berry’s level and played within 6-7 years of him. He may have been a once in a quarter century player for us, but there’s been plenty of Eric Berrys over the last 20 years

Eric Berry is the best college DB I've seen since I starred watching college football in 1999. In the NFL there were many as good as him and even a few who were better. But in college there was no one better. He was the freakiest of freak athletes I ever saw in college. Up there with Adrian Peterson and Cam Newton.

I think comparing him to one of the best slot DBs in recent NFL history with Honey Badger and arguably the two best safeties of all time with Reed and Taylor would show that Eric Berry is a pretty rare commodity period

You literally only mention 4 players with Berry being the defacto 5th .

Over 20 years- how many All-American safeties have there been? 2 per year assuming, some playing a NB role or Star. So let’s say 45?

And you only mention 4.

Then there’s P5 All Conference players.
So that’s 245 ? And you could only mention the best safety in the history of the Texas Longhorns. The two best for the Miami Hurricane in all their stories history. And The Honey Badger who was an anomaly to College Football. Who where in the same breath as Eric Berry….

Bro lol!!

I don’t know who you are, but every time I look you’re making many not well thought out proclamations. You can have an opinion- but HAVE AN OPINION.

I’m not saying he wasn’t special, but we’ve had a lot of special players over the last 25 years

Just talked with the coach and the way they went about this is shameful. They basically stownwalled every boy that wanted to come in and play. Didn’t give financial aid or denied them completely. They basically set the coach up by stopping all support.
Webb alum here. One that was pre-football and actually doesn't care much about it at the school

But if it's true that the new headmaster cancelled the season without input from the coach, then that's incredibly disrespectful and a bad omen for the school. Sounds like an autocracy forming.

Coaches are ALWAYS ginning up solutions to roster shortcomings, and who knows what kind of input he had. There's almost always a solution. Sounds like people of influence there just didn't want football.

One prospect who does appear to be creeping closer to a decision is Joel Wyatt. He has told us this week that he would like to announce his commitment before the end of the month. New programs like Oklahoma have given him plenty to think about, but it appears he is closer to putting this process in the rearview, as opposed to taking it into the fall. It certainly feels like at this point, the two in-state programs, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, are the most realistic options.

We continue to believe there are plenty of things that line up for Wyatt to end up on Rocky Top, with relationships playing a key role for him down the stretch.

I mean, I hope the kid picks Tennessee. But I'm not gonna lie, I'm always a little wary of the great athlete types who don't have a clearly defined position.

The staff is definitely pushing for him so they have a plan for him. I'm hoping we're the pick.

I just can't imagine intentionally going to Vanderbilt when you have other options. Last year was a pinnacle year for them and they won what... 7 games?

Jauan Jennings turned out pretty good. We started him at QB. That saying he was never really taken seriously there. Wyatt is a great athlete that is fast. He will translate one way or the other in my opinion.
