If he is running like a safety at 230, he will be a 6'4" 230 lb safety. Not many people can keep that athleticism at that size, but if he can he wont be an edge.If Cam Chancellor were being recruited nowadays he would absolutely be recruited as an EDGE
Yet we all know that dude was a monster safety that played mostly in the box at 6’4” 235.
If I’m Coach Banks I would break down what the differences are between DB that mostly plays in the box vs a pass rusher that drops into coverage occasionally.
Eric Berry back in 2009 was basically a LB.
Kids often have opinions about their own ability without really understanding what they’re asking for.
This kid could play either but I don’t believe he has the skillset to shine at ROV/STAR/DB.
But at EDGE he’s very good IMO
James Pearce just ran a 4.47 at the combine. If he is running like a safety at 230, he will be a 6'4" 230 lb safety. Not many people can keep that athleticism at that size, but if he can he wont be an edge.
James Pearce set a record for DE running a 40 and he would have been the 7th fastest Saftey this class. Safeties 40 times average about .2 seconds quicker than EDGE rushers.James Pearce just ran a 4.47 at the combine.
Not many NFL safeties can run that.
It’s not just about speed or quickness playing safety.
We’ll see where his school play him on defense this season because I’ve seen him playing WR and DE for them.
He’s an amazing athlete and I am curious to see him play some DB this season.
Agree, who doesn’t love a jumbo safety/backer. Been a while since we’ve had oneSeems to me they should let the kid try out for the position he wants (within reason). He can easily transition to somewhere else if it doesn't pan out. Just get him on the roster and work out the details later. Too good of an athlete to let him get away over semantics.
AP said on the pod the other day that he thinks it’s pretty obvious he is going to end up being an edge. Said it’s already over 200+ and could see him being 235-240 by the time his freshman year rolls aroundSeems to me they should let the kid try out for the position he wants (within reason). BA is throwing around crazy money trying to compete this year.Hearing he might go to Brentwood academy his senior yeah. A fellow teammate on the basketball team just left for BA. Could just be rumors but it would be the best thing he could do. He would get much better coaching - right now Webb just has the head coach on staff literally zero assistants on the football staff at the moment.
vandy was once thought to be the team. gotta give the nod to tennessee, just because. but nothing surprises any more.Do we feel good here?
