"Dooley took the job when no one else would".

Hell, wouldn't most people take a job paying millions whether you succeed or fail? Also,he knew that the expectations wouldn't be that great for the first couple of years. It was a win/win for Dooley.

Evidently "most people" did not take the job. According to the pundits the job was offered to several before Dooley. He did take it. He has restored the program to a level of competitiveness and class. He has not proven to be able to just win.

It may have been offered to several so-called "big names" that turned Tennessee down. No coach at a smaller school like La Tech turned them down. There are a bunch of coaches at smaller schools that have actually turned their program around. In 3 years, Dooley turned La Tech into a program with a 4 - 8 record.

Dooley got the job because his daddy was named Vince and because he used to coach with Saban. It had nothing to do with his credentials as a head coach.

That is exactly the reason he got the job. Name alone ! However, i really wanted him to be successful. Didn't happen, time to go. Next !

He coached the team that lost to Kentucky!
He coached the team that is 0-15 against ranked teams.
You call this competitive? Apparently your standards are really low.

yeah i guess the fact that weve had the ball in the 4th quarter with a chance to win every game this season except bama means we arent competitive...if watching our defense wasnt worse than watching the end of old yeller we would be 7-1 easily

Can't believe you started this thread - I was minutes away from doing the same thing. LOL. Yes, it's a BS argument from homers. They are tryng to make the case that Dooley did us a favor by coming here, therefore we ought to give him whatever time he thinks he needs to turn it around. Complete crap argument.

Based on this, you think Dooley was at the top of our list? He would had to have been if most people would love this opportunity. Also, the expectations are never low here. We could have the golden girls out there and a lot of fans would expect Blanche to win the heisman on the way to the national championship.

When a coach knows he can make similar $$ or be offered more money going somewhere else, he is not going to take a rebuilding project with the possibilities of NCAA sanctions looming overhead. Unless your offering top SEC money(which Hamilton was NOT), your going to get a scrub who is coming so he can double or triple his current salary. That is what we got. He should have been replaced after the UK game last year. Paying the man another 2 million dollars to flop another season, was our own fault. DD will walk away from UT having made over 11 million dollars for his 3 years of hanging out. I would think ALOT of coaches would have considered that had they known what was actually on the table.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

That seems to sum up every game Dooley has coached at UT.

Nobody should use it as an argument for keeping him around. I've used it, though, as an argument for not hating on the guy.

So you think Hamilton went from giving a coaching staff one of the highest overall salaries to going cheap? Hamilton would've given his left nut for a big time coach after what his last hire did. Money was not an issue.

Kiffin was paid 2 million. His daddy was paid 1 million. 2 million dollars is BOTTOM of the SEC money. Several OC/DC make near 1 million now. Yes, we had a high paid staff with Kiffin. The problem is that a high paid staff at UT makes about as much as the HC at 8 of the other SEC schools.
