Tip your hat to the Mizzou staff, last 4 recruiting classes

I'm not very confident in Mizz's recruiting classes. However, ur Coaches are very impressive. The bottom line is we have AJ playing in this game, UT wins. He was the backbone of the Entire Team this year. There was an empty void on Offense and Defense with him gone. He was our leader.
Bump!

There are some coaches that can "coach" like Pinkel and Biellema and some who can recruit and coach like Saban and then there's Butch ... can recruit and rah rah the followers but can't coach his way out of a paper bag. I just wish someone could explain how he is 2-0 vs the old ball coach.

CBJ is one helluva coach, if u ask me! Minus the OC, we have one of the better coaching staffs in the SEC! IMO

Who has the better roster? By the rankings we do and by a wide margin.

If Butch can coach, there's no reason to lose to a team with worse players at home.

But that takes me back to my original remark. Pinkel can coach. Butch cannot.

UT started 7 true freshman.

I knew about their below average (by sec standards) recruiting. It blows my mind how coach Pinkle can get so much out of that.

Let's keep in mind that they are playing in the East. The East has been its weakest ever over the Butch/Dooley/Muschamp era since it began. The East is absolutely crazy now. The one team that showed any symbolence of it's old glory days is Georgia and they curb stomped Mizzu. Pinkle is a very good coach but their recent success has more to do with opportunity than the program itself. I mean lets be honest, Vandy looked like a quality team for a couple of years too playing in the East.

The beat down in Atl is true..

Probably.

I'm not even sure they get by Arkansas...partially because of having a short week to get ready, as well as how Arkansas has been playing.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Alabama lost to them though?

I wouldn't mind that at all.. Will be pulling for Mizzou in the champ game if they win Sat

The amazing thing is how many people wanted Pinkel fired after 2012. Many Mizzou fans and sportswriters were saying Pinkel couldn't compete in the SEC. So much for that. Pinkel has long been one of the most underrated coaches in college football.

That was mainly why. It was more of a national opinion (sportswriters/media, other fan bases) that he wasn't the coach for their having success in this kind of conference.

It was a bit odd...it didn't really start with their fans, but it was like enough people said it / they heard it enough that it started to upset them and they began questioning it as well.

Of course, the bad news for the NegaVols is that by their own standards, they would've wanted Pinkel fired after his first two seasons, as well (if they had been Mizzou fans). He went 4-7 and 5-7 during his first two years, and also went 5-6 during his 4th season. Pinkel didn't have a huge breakthrough till his 7th season at Mizzou.

True, but he was also taking a program that, since the mid-80s, was winning 1-5 games (with 2 bowl appearances). He likely had some more grace, possibly for that reason.

(It might even be more on point to say their breakthrough/success came either with that 8 win season in his 3rd year or the 5th/6th season when they reached the point that 7-8 wins and making a bowl game annually became the baseline.

But 2007 could perhaps be considered as breaking a barrier in that program as well.)

Hm, honestly wouldn't mind it the more I think about it.

It would take Bama down a notch.

Miss St. would be the only conference team in the college playoff.

And gives UGA less material to use with recruits that both schools are targeting (or also less material to use to try to sway anyone we already have)...

(and best I can tell, Missouri mainly appears to target recruiting specifically for their system; I might be mistaken but I don't think we've overlapped interest with them on too many recruits.)

There's a pretty impressive correlation between recruiting success and on the field success, but its not unitary. How many top five classes has Bill Snyder at Kansas State ever had? How many has Boise State, BYU, Baylor? Two things. 1st, Coaching matters. 2nd, its impossible to really get a read on how good a recruiting class was except in retrospect. I'm satisfied with Butch's recruiting ability. I'm a long way from coming to an opinion about his coaching ability (but I'm optimistic).

This is one of those threads you bump when we are winning.

Forget our age issue and oline issue.
The excuses will be fun. It will probably be.... It's the players winning.

Butch Jones, may indeed, still be learning how to coach....on the job training?
Who's sold on Jones coaching ability?

Negavols feeling warm and cozy...pathetic b
Do you have anything of value to add that explains why a program like Mizzou can take those type of classes and win with them on a regular basis?

Or better yet offer an opinion as to why its not relevant to our situation.

I agree with both sides of the arguments in this thread. I really think year 3 will determine how good or bad this coaching staff is performing.

Because Mizzou had a pair and didn't fire Pinkel when he didn't have immediate success...you know?... Like 1 and a 1/2 years in?....and gasp!...again when he had a bad run 3 years ago. Believe it or not, we know when stuff sucks...you have NO WAY of knowing anything right now. Slow your roll!
