We try to get a coach after the season ends? Wow, that's shocking. Where are the mopes who said we had to fire Butch weeks ago or we'd be behind everyone else...especially UF.
i doubt it's that short, and i feel confident that the overtures thrown in Gruden's direction are true. how reciprocated they are...that's another story. and i'm sure there's at least been some vetting on Chip Kelly.
I would say Currie has a list that includes no less than 5-7 names. Who are his top ones? Nobody knows.
Kiffin is the Bad Boy of Football. But he would make it exciting.
It's funny though. Kiffin is offered the HC job at USC, his alma mater, takes it .. and he has no integrity.
Currie is offered the AD job at UT, his alma mater, and takes it ... and he has integrity.
All depends on how you look at it.
Why would Gruden be top target? He hasn't coached in years and openly said he wanted an NFL gig and even the NFL doesn't take him seriously as a coach. He was fired after all.
Frost would be a great pick, but I think he's headed to FLA. Mullen isn't going anywhere. He makes the same money in Starkville without the pressure.
UT needs an offensive-minded coach, one who knows the SEC, can recruit and develop talent and compete.
Of all the coaches out there, the one that fits UT best is ... Lane Kiffin.
Personally I think there should be an NCAA rule in place that says coaches can't do this. To bail on your team just prior to playing in what is supposed to be the reward for a hard fought season I think that is a HUGE disservice to those kids! Coaches should be made to stay with their current team until their season is truly over.
I think Curries list is;
1. Frost
2. Mullen
Currie's TOP TEN list of candidates probably looks like this, but before you lock and load, remember... his mentor was the great and infamous Mike Hamilton: THE List
1). Tony Petersen
2). Taver Johnson
3). Doug Ruse
4). Doug Meacham
5). Lee Owens
6). Garrick McGee
7). Mike Riley
8). Jim McElwain
9). Butch Davis
10). Tony Franklin
Why those guys? He can get them for a pittance at Dollar Coach Tree, Family Coach Dollar Store, or off the clearance rack at CoachMart. However, if he is willing to pay the prices at "Coaches - Fifth Avenue" he may pick up one of the guys from the following list: Patterson, Frost, Mullen, Campbell, Norvell, Rodriquez, Brohm, Whittingham, Strong, and Taggart - The question is, is Currie willing to pay the "Coaches-Fifth Avenue" price... or is he simply going to chintz away ala the way of Hamilton and Hart, and go with the "Blue Light Special" at Coach Mart? Hmmm... GBO anyway...
