Good article by David Climer of the Tennessean concerning the treatment that Jonathon Crompton has received from some fans. I understand the passion we as fans have for our team. I understand the criticism CPF received over the past few years, and I understand the disappointment we all felt last year. Why do we let it become so personal.

JC is out there everyday, busting his butt to help this team be successful. What affect would it have if we actual supported him and cheered for him instead of boo him. If we showed our support by picking him up when he is down. Imagine the effort we would get if we showed how much we are behind him even when he makes a mistake.

I challenge everyone to stop living in the past, begin anew with the new coaching staff, and start supporting our entire team. Maybe then we will see the fruit of his labor.

I've seen the fruit of Crompton's labor, unfortunately, and it's some pretty sour grapes. However, I'm all for supporting him as long as he's wearing orange.

I say support Crompton, he's all we have so we might as well suck up his lack of skills. We really have no choice

I can tell you what affect it had. Last week the stadium starts a Jon Crompton cheer - in unison, much like the Eric Berry cheers. Crompton proceeded to throw a called backed interception and two rockets into the dirt.

It's time for Crompton to support the team and carry his weight should be the title...

I agree to a point. I do wish the best for him. I think he "Give his all for Tennessee Today". He is talented. He just hasn't put it together when it counts. I hope he has the game of his life. If anyone ever deserved a win like this it is John Crompton. But he is a fifth year senior. It is time to man up. Make a play. You have the talent. Show it.

If he can somehow pull this off. His name would go down in the annuals. He would be everyones hero then. It would be one of the biggest wins in UT history. We will see Saturday.

You know...part of me would love to see Marsalis Teague to get back under center. He was dynamic in high school, can run well, throw well, run the zone read. It would just be an interesting wrinkle. Oh yea....GO CROMPTON

I've often wondered how much better, if any, Crompton would be had Cutcliffe decided to stay. I mean, it always seemed to me that CDC was some sort of QB coach wunderkin that could take a fragile minded 20 year old QB and transform him into a man amoungst boys, a la Ainge.

I remember seeing a freshman (or was he a sophomore?) Crompton step in for an injured Ainge against LSU. I was very impressed, not necessarily with his play (though it wasn't half bad) but more with his attitude...he had a swagger...he had "it." And I for one was excited to see what the future held for this kid.

So when Cutcliffe left and CPF brought in Clawsen...what happened? I know what happened last season...but...I never saw that swagger again, he never displayed the QB mentality that impressed me so much just a couple of years before.

Granted...I was at a UT bar in NYC (which I HIGHLY reccomend to anyone up there on a gameday) and I was, let's say..."well lubricated." But not so much that I was halucinating. I know what I saw, and what I saw was a completely different person that the Crompton under center for us now.

I for one will Cheer with all of my might for Crompton. How is doing otherwise anything but rooting for TEAM FAILURE?

I want my team to succeed...they only do that with Crompton's success, not in spite of it. Forget about the past and try to move past it...let's get VolNation, OrangeNation, Neyland, and the collective alumni behind this guy and maybe he'll regain what he lost!

It appeared to me that he never grasped the Clawfense last year. That the swapping sides with the OL confused protection and when it broke down JC was complete lost at what and where he was suppose to go.

Look at the Kentucky game last year. When they simplified everything, he played much better.

The anger that was directed his way last year also destroyed his confidence.

That is why I am on a mission to build unity and support behind him. I think this kid is talented and has ability. CLK has even mentioned how smart and hard he works.

I believe we as a fan base can make a difference this year if we stop with the personal attacks and start supporting him the way we would want to be supported.

Crompton may not be the quarterback of our dreams. He is not a Peyton, Casey, Eric, Rick, or Heath but according to our coaches, he is the best we have.. Other quaterbacks are on the bench because Crompton out performed them in practices prior to the season's start. He may not be perfect. He may not be the next Heisman Trophy winner, but our coaches are convinced, given the choices they have, Crompton is the only man for the job.

He may not be perfect. He may not have sniper rifle accuracy. He may not have the strongest arm in college football. However, he earned the starting quaterback position by beating out all the others.

Now damn it, it is time for all of us to get behind him and accept him as OUR quarterback, for better or worse, in victory and defeat, till this season do us part.

Crompton, Crompton, he's our man.


GO VOLS, leave the swamp-reptilians in shambles.

The one big question I still have is... Why does it appear he is afraid to make plays with his legs these days? He showed as a sophmore he has decent wheels when needed. Now if he gets flushed out, he's like a plane looking for a safe place to crash land.

I think if the pass isn't there, and he has a running lane he needs to take it. If he made a few plays against UCLA with his feet, that could give him some bounce back in his step.

It's not about the fans getting behind him. He is not a good football player. I respect his hard work, and I am hoping he pulls a miracle Saturday, but I am expecting nothing better than a three turnover day. Everyone wants to make excuses for him because he is our starter, but I have zero faith that he can get the job done effectively. I don't hate the kid, but I have watched him for over a year and there has been little to no improvement in his game and he still looks lost out there. Once again, I hope me makes me eat crow, but I'm just calling it like I see it...

He is all we have.
We arent starting Stevens so support him even if you dont like him.
Thats just the way i see it.
