Time to Reunite as Vol Fans

I want to make it clear upfront that I am just as upset as the next fan on the past two year’s results. Like many others, I too have asked for Dooley to be fired after his two dismal years as coach. Now that I have said that, I am one willing to admit that I may have been wrong or hasty in my calling for his head.

Ever since the Kentucky loss, I have watched Dooley and how he has went about correcting the situation of the UT football program. Like a true leader, Dooley addressed some shortcomings and made some tough but necessary changes to the coaching staff. I know that some on here will say that Dooley had nothing to do with these changes and that it was Hart who made the calls. There will also be some say that it was not Dooley but rather coaches jumping ship that caused the staff change over. I will agree that Hart has probably had his hand in some of the decisions regarding the staff; however I must take Hart at his word and believe that he left the staff decisions to Head Ball Coach. So far Dooley has made what I think to be nothing but improvements across the board. I know others will disagree, that is your right.

I have come to the decision that there are some that will call for Dooley’s head regardless and say that he is out of his league. Again, I was one of these guys in the past. Regardless of how/why he was the one given the job, it is his and some people with much more power than any of us on VN have agreed to let him try and return UT back to the glory days. In the end it does not matter how much we complain, groan, or call for his job. The people with much more to lose will continue to make the decisions and we just need to have enough trust that they are truly trying to build the program.

I for one believe the time has come to let the past reside in the past and that we as fans get on board with what Dooley is trying to do here. As much as it pains us as fans, you have to agree that as the HC, Dooley hates that we are losing much more. He spends countless hours with these young men and in many cases sees them as his family and no one wants to see their family fail. I know that some will drop the hammer on me for this, if you must you must. I for one am tired of attacking my Big Orange brothers and sisters and ask that we forget the past and focus on what tomorrow holds.

If you must reply, please try to be tactful as this thread is not meant to cause strife among fans.

Go Vols!

Count me in. GBO

This point has probably been made before, as it is so terribly obvious:
For those that hate Dooley, why? Most ill tell you that the loss to Kentucky was the "straw that broke the camels back" to prove that he "can't coach".

But remember this, pre-season the over/under on UT was 6.5, that was before the injuries.

Add to that this interesting fact: In 2011, Dooley won the same number of games that he was predicted to win by the odds makers during the season. In essence, we were supposed to lose every game we did (except Kentucky) and win every game we did (except Vanderbilt). So we beat the favored Vandy, and lost as the favorites to Ky, that is a wash statistically.

Say what you want about how bad it hurts to be down this bad, but could anyone look at the roster and depth and expect anything else? I for one cannot, we have hit bottom and are coming back out! I, for one, am VERY excited about the future...

My favorite coach at UT will always be the person who is currently coaching. Gotta support the Vols!

I remain skeptical about Dooley. I want us to win every game this season. If we still lose all games we are underdogs in I hope everyone will be ok with blowing the clown out of here if that happens. Go Vols!

So you want us to win all games or lose all games? Conflict of interest.

He might get some backing from people who believe he is a joke if he started winning a few games. 1-7 in the SEC is just absolutely unacceptable. Creating a rift between the Berry's and Tennessee is if true a cardinal sin. Frankly Dooley is a pr nightmare who has not exhibited the trait that he can coach either at La. Tech or Tennessee. Just win and that takes care of everything. By the way do something about halftimes! It is ridiculous that he has never won a game trailing at half. That might help to.

I had been a Dooley supporter all along , and after the Kentucky loss, I'll admit that I had lost some confidence in Dooley. But I truly believe he is laying down a solid foundation for this program to be competitive in the next decade. As we have all been saying on here, 2012 is a crossroads year. We will be leaving a disappointing era and moving on to becoming the program we all know it can be.

2012 will be our chance to show that we are well on our way back.

I'm still on the fence regarding Dooley but I feel like you're telling me...

I can't make a decision like this in late January. Ask me again in mid October. :good!:
