Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

I'm still just sitting here waiting on Lovie Smith's plane to land. What is he now, about 5-19?

It's almost like being in a Super Bowl and having Collegiate success in a Power 5 conference are not always comparable.

Hmm.

Did my daily peek into the Gruden thread. A poster who appeared to be one of the studious types and taking the Gruden thing VERY seriously posted in deference and almost hat in hand to the big dogs saying he had done some pretty serious real estate and property tax searches with nothing to show for it, Gruden owning or buying a house has zero paper trail.

Gruden "owning property" and recently "closed on a house in Knoxville" is a lynch pin of the grudenite crowd. So how did an honest broker pointing out one of the basic legs on their stool just disappeared and was a complete phantom get embraced?

Oh well, he obviously "didn't put any of the property in his name!" To which they all bowed down genuflected and said, "Dilly! Dilly!" Problems presented solutions offered! It's as easy a waving a magic wand. LOL

That's bull****e. Lurk in your acceptance of mediocrity.

Lol, so to you not living in the fantasyland of Gruden coming here and thinking he is the only coach capable of fixing the vols is accepting mediocrity? Lol, perhaps you should hang out in the designated safe space. We only like realistic views here.

It perfectly reasonable to think Gruden could come here. We don’t know a lot, but we do know that ESPN will make big layoffs after Thanksgiving and that’s Gruden’s ckntract isn’t guaranteed. It’s a tricky situation for them to navigate without the talent learning who is leaving. He really may not know or be in negotiations with them right now. That coupled with NFL offers to weigh makes it murky at best.

The only thing I know for sure is that if it were a definite no he would have said something by now.

Most of the trades are reporting significant layoffs at ESPN are taking place. However the trades are reporting most of the talent and people hitting the streets including suits are associated with their now failed Sports Center brand.

A microcosm of that thread. Everything is a smokescreen and so super secretive that clearly Gruden, Currie, and everyone involved are overqualified for their jobs and should be working in the DOD.

Ok you’re not in your damn safe space thread here.

Knock off the true fan crap just because we can’t see any way in hell Gruden comes here.

I believe TN should be competing for the SEC East title every damn year. I believe any year we are 3rd or lower in the east we have not met expectations. I believe we SHOULD win the SEC at least once every 5 years and should be in the discussion for it every year or we are not meeting expectations.

I also believe there is no way on God’s little green and orange earth that Gruden is coming here either!!!

You fans don’t get the only say on the true fan cards!!!

Jon Gruden will not be a college football coach. He has no track record for anyone to believe in. he has shown no ability to recruit. He only shows interest and the desire for the job when it puts him in the spotlight.

While being a head coach in the NFL is quite an achievement. It does not guarantee every team you coach will be the best team in the history of the planet. Remember Kiffin was an NFL coach. So was Charlie Weiss.

Jon Gruden is a big name, but like fast-food. Seems like a great idea until you're hungry again in an hour.

Yes.

And there is a real danger that the AD is feeling pressure to pursue this Gruden foolishness because of the idiotic fanbase, which absolutely will NOT help us find and land the real HR hire we so desperately need. I propose we ban the word "Gruden" on Volnation until further notice. It isn't helping, folks!

Since UT isn't the only place willing to offer a top coach millions of dollars, one just has to put themselves in a prospective coaches shoes. "Do I want to uproot my family and move my wife and children to Knoxville TN? Things like this are things a lot of people don't think about, let alone their attitudes they express having consequences.

It sucks but there's really not a whole lot that can be done about it. It drives traffic for Freak.

Since it's basically a roleplay/social/fantasy thread full of fake insiders, the only thing you can really do is move it to an off topic forum.

You do know you can "ignore thread" and poof, it's gone.

Never should have been any Gruden talk to begin with.
The fact that Gruden has been a topic EVERY season since Fulmer was fired is crazy to me. I kinda got it up till the Dooley hire at that point it shoulda been dead but folks cant let it die. I would bet that if someone did their research there has been at least one thread per week about Gruden (actually about daily) since Dooley was fired. its has become past sad. UT fans are like the antagonist in a stalker movie.

Of course she loves me, she drives past me every day and smiles. Sure its as she leaves her parking garage at work. I work there at the guard booth. But she smiles at me every time I punch her ticket.

Just like the Russians planting fake news into the 2016 election, what if the whole Gruden idea was planted on VN all those years ago by a Florida fan with nefarious intentions?

*mind. blown. :-O

(if so, it's working, anonymous Florida fan.)

The one angle that you have to process are the ESPN layoffs. Those are real. But there is a doomsday scenario the grudenites wont or can’t acknowledge. You don’t lay off your marquee talent. You work with them and try to keep them. Jon Gruden is the best at what he does in my opinion. He and Madden both have the gift of gab. They are both talkers and they know football. Even if I don’t like the matchup I’ll keep listening to Gruden. He’s awesome at color commentary.

So if you’re ESPN you just lay him off? No you try to renegotiate. And Gruden loves his gig. He’s admitted that. When money is rolling in you spread the wealth with the talent. When the belt tightens you see if the talent will talk. Yeah ESPN is going to lay off a bunch. But make no mistake they will try to keep Gruden. He’s awesome at what he does. And him playing up the the UT rumors might help his bargaining stance here. “Hey I don’t need you ESPN see?”

If Gruden actually stays and eventually winds up taking a haircut of some kind the grudenites will lose their damn minds. Or they’ll blame it on some botched move by a BMD that messed the whole deal up and made him walk... again. That second scenario is coming anyway probably.
