This rebuild is a tough one. It was the perfect storm. The first year we had a good oline thus a pretty good offense, but our defense was the slowest, poorest tackling bunch I can remember at tennessee. We addressed a lot of the defensive needs and we are much improved there this year. Unfortunately our whole oline left us, and now we have lots of issues on offense. The ol makes schemes work or not work. It's like we have some great horses on offense, but the wagon has square wheels. Butch just needs some time. He has been trying to put out fires everywhere, but Tennessee was a forest fire in twenty mph winds when he got here. I think most would have said that the top things a new coach needs to do when he gets here is: 1) top ten recruiting class. 2) top ten recruiting class. 3) top ten recruiting class. 4). Give the fan base hope again
5). Go to a bowl.
I think we still go to a bowl game this year. Because he has fulfilled the first 4 things on the list. He just can't get to 6 wins in the first 5 games of the season, unfortunately some of our stupid fans think we should have 6 wins already this year.

Great Post. Now that the sting is starting to wear off a bit, and the tendency to finger point and blame gets more useless, it's clear to see that we are on our way up. CBj and staff can't undo this mess in 1-2 years. We need to stay the course as fans. Either way, things will become evident within the next year. Like you said, we just need to give time...time. We will get there!

Sure could use those 15 extra practice's

Amen bro. and not just for the experience standpoint, he needs to get some of the riff raff settled down in the fan base. You can tell Butch is all in. He eats, drinks, and sleeps tennessee football. Nothing hurts your soul more than to give your all, everything you got, and family time to a goal in creating a great football team and getting spit on by a portion of the fan base in the process. I hope he realizes that there are more people on his side than against him, especially after reading all these posts on here the last few days.

I'm disappointed that we let the Florida game slip away but I said early on that we would struggle in the SEC this year. All these freshmen are growing up but its painful. The sad thing is that some of our fan base thought we had enough talent to win this year and they're going after our coaches as the losses mount.

The truth hurts.

Three true things that we'd all be better off that VN could figure them out:

1. This team is and always has been a 5-7 team, and nothing has or will change about that.
2. Nate Peterman, if given an entire preseason to prep as the starter, would finish with more wins in his best season than Worley or Bray did in their best season.
3. Chattanooga is better than they've been in years, and will be in the game in the second half if we don't play the starters and go hard for the win.

1. Disagree. Are you meaning team 118? Or Vols football in general? Either way, you are wrong.

2. Disagree. He isn't given the entire preseason to prep as the starter because he isn't good enough to be the starter.

3. Seriously disagree. Chattanooga will be in awe just to be able to play against the Tennessee Vols in Neyland. They get spanked by 3 TD's or more.

I uttered almost exactly these words to a friend last night.

I uttered almost exactly these words to a friend last night.

Friend of mine and I have talked about the 08 defense and 12 offense and how that would be a sure national championship contender.

Now we only have one season in between the two phases of the game.

We'll put it together before too long.

Granted after Saturday I was in a glass case of emotion, but I kept it confined to car on the way home.
