Time for Wilcox to step up.

Cincinnati should be a statement game for no one.

Shouldnt be, but it is. Why is it that just about everyone agrees that we still dont have the talent to compete for the SEC , yet we still can use a game against a team like Cincinnati as a measuring stick. I guess we can only use FCS teams to judge him by?????

His main attraction was his ability to slow down / stop high scoring offenses. We have talent that is equal to or better than he's had in the past. Time for the excuses to cease. We dont need to just win this game, we need to win by two touchdowns IMO. This is a statement game for Wilcox, I really do like him so I hope his defense really starts to shine. Its time!

He's got 10 new starters on Defense and 3 true freshman, wtf is wrong with you! I hope you get judged on your job with more thought! Idiots rule!!!!!!!

Use a team that went 4-8 last year as a measuring stick....never.

This will be Wilcox's game to prove himself to the fans and the SEC. If he doesn't do good this game will have the same outcome at the end of the season as we did last year.

I think Flordia and LSU are really good statement games for him.

Does anyone think he will be gone after this year?

Not until he has a deep cabinet of SEC talent to make his defenses look awesome.....he has some proving to do on this level yet for a few years to come.

When you have the issues weve had the past few years, you have to start somewhere. Everyone already knows we arent good enough for the SEC , right?

You saw SEC caliber play from UT last Saturday?

Yes. Our passing game is up to Tennessee standard.

clearly you have a very low bar....

and clearly you are delusional.

the passing game was very good, especially with the weather conditions.

Good but hardly up to Tennessee standard....unless you standards include giving up 3 sacks and what should have been a couple of int.

first you respond to someone who said the passing game was UT standard by saying, "you clearly have a low bar." and now you admit that it was good. make up your mind

and yes they gave up 3 sacks, but we all know the oline didnt play well at all. im strictly talking about bray's/the WR's performances. also, both ints got called back, and rightfully so. so im not sure where you're going with that about the ints.

What part of Good but hardly up to Tennessee standard did you not understand?

what part of this did you not understand? seems like you never responded to that.

also, for a first game, and first time starting for rogers, hunter, and bray all together, i'd say it worked very well. and cdd was very praiseful of the passing game as well. do you understand that?

It's Cinncinati! We need to win by more than that......I think Wilcox will show us what he is worth. Not to mention he turned down a lucrative Tejas job, so I would guess he sees a real opportunity on the horizon.

This thread is rediculous.

One game into his second season with the talent and depth we have and the age of this talent and depth in the toughest conference in the country. Really?

I agree! If it wasn't for a few big Montana pass plays and a safety then we only give up one touchdown! It's not time to panic!

Tell me when Cincy joined the SEC.:birgits_giggle:

Dooley's staff have done more to solve that then Kiffin and Fulmer did.
I agree. I do think for the most part Dooley and his staff have done a great job bringing in great talent at almost every position. DT is the one area that scares me. Like I said I think we'll be fine and for now we shouldn't expect an elite defense but we can't make excuses about talent gaps when it is the coaches' job to go out and recruit that talent.

Wanted to bump this. I think Wilcox did a good job of adjusting and has this week to keep it going. What does everyone think of our defense now?

I think at Boise Wilcox had a lot of senior players on defense that knew all of schemes and assignments. In a year or two at UT he will have the same only with better athletes. Give him a little time and we will be elite on both sides of the ball.

Thank you J. Wilcox for showing me what I already knew. Your "D" stepped up after the first quarter like i've been expecting.

Yes Boise's program is mature enough that they can develop the underclassmen while upperclassmen who've been in the program a few years start. We'll start getting there next couple of years.
