Tim Irwin on pruitt

Its not like CJP could waive players in the middle of the season. He was stuck with a bunch of Divison 1AA players on the roster.

So this year we get to use injuries as an excuse for the coaches? I get so confused. Last year the injuries were no excuse and were the fault of the staff. This year coaches are blameless and injuries kept us from winning more games.

I wish there was.one standard to judge these coaches on. ...
We aren’t deep. Trey Smith obviously best lineman and maybe best potential of all for being all American. When you aren’t deep, injuries matter. Isn’t a comment on coaching. That’s an entirely different thing. Just saying what good players we had in 2018, and there weren’t many, were pretty banged up by the Vandy game.

And the previous coaches who so many here claim didn't know how to recruit SEC talent had depth?

One standard and one only. You win games or you're a loser.

That's so much easier than mental gymnastics and excuse making.

I'll paraphrase the father of a well known SEC Head Coach " You are the team that you put on the field." I don't see anywhere he mentioned talent or injuries or depth or prior coaching staffs or whatever else we can sit around and come up with for getting blown out. This father's statement is one I tend to believe more than most of the water carriers excuses here on VN.

So it’s binary. A 1 or a zero. No gray area at all. Pruitt should have coached this bunch into SEC or national championship. All on him. Yup.

Close but no cigar.

He definitely should have coached them to a .500 record at minimum. And yes that is all on him and his hiring choices.

Do you think Shiano would have done better?

Thank the good lord in heaven we will never know.

Schiano is likely a better coach than he is a human, so the answer to your question (which came out of left field with apparently no point to it) is a definite maybe. One thing is for damned sure, he wouldn't have done worse.

When we needed 2 or 3 yds we would go the left side of the line where Trey Smith was and usually could not pick up 2 yds. So why does everyone think Smith is a great player
