Tim Duncan impact on Peyton Manning to stay at UT

I'm not getting into the Tee Martin hate. He was QB for the 1998 championship and will be honored forever because of it. My only question for you is, wasn't Tee on the team in 1999? Why didn't UT win the championship again?

A. Because Randy Sanders inexplicably couldn't put a TE on Alex Brown.

B. Because Arkansas was extremely motivated after losing to us the way they did the year prior. Winning that game on the road would've been extremely tough for anybody.

C. Because Nebraska was simply a better team than us.

If Peyton Manning had left a year early, Tee Martin could've won us a national title a year early and then he could've gone back to back.
Manning held us back in '97.
Disagree. I think things worked out just right to get that title. Tee wouldn’t have had a year to develop more had he started in ‘97. Who knows, maybe he isn’t even the starter at that point. That ‘97 Florida team would’ve beaten UT with either guy at QB. In fact, if that ‘98 UF-UT game happened 10 times I bet UF wins more than UT does but things just all came together that year for a season that will always stand in the record books. Man that was so much fun. I’d say the same thing if you said Peyton played in ‘98. That would’ve changed a lot of things and I bet we wouldn’t have won the title.

Without manning we don’t overcome 6 turnovers (only one was really Manning’s fault) in the sec championship to beat auburn. Love tee Martin and all he did for us but the play from the oline and dline was so much better in 98 compared to 97 and that was the difference.

Get out of here. That team should have blown FSU out in the national championship. The offense was not on the level of the defense. Tee Martin threw 2 picks and we also lost 2 fumbles. We should’ve hung 40 points on them. FSU’s QB completed 9 passes and threw 2 picks. There was no reason that game should’ve ended as close as it did.

We’re you even alive in 1997? Tee Martin was very fortunately that the rest of the team was top notch. He was barely above average Q. B.

Kobe will forever be my #1 favorite. But Tim Duncan is behind him at #2. Never flashy. Never had any issues off the court. But always a hard worker, showed up in the clutch and got the job done. Plus, stayed with the Spurs his whole career. Gotta respect that.

I wonder if Tee starts in 1997, would we have seen an earlier start for Jamal Lewis. I remember back in those days, the team that could rush the most effectively usually won the game and in 98 we dominated against Florida in that statistic.

We did. By the end of the year we were better than UF but that early they were a little better than us imo. However, we really came to play that night. We were more physical and more aggressive. I was so hung over at that game, yes even being a night game, but it was awesome! The game, not the hangover as that was a bad one.

I was at that game. I was in college at UT at the time. My friend’s cousin Joseph Amonette played for Wake and he’d get us tickets to games sometimes. One of my childhood friends also went to UVA, so we went up to that game and visited my friend.

We were sitting down front with players’ families. Mr. Duncan was one of the happiest, nicest men I’ve ever met. Eventually, I turned around and there’s Peyton and Ashley. I said, “hey man.” He said hi beck. Later, Joseph told us that Peyton had gone into the locker room after the game and chatted up Duncan. After Peyton returned to UT, I remember reading about that story in Sports Illustrated and thinking it was cool that it was the UVA game I’d attended and seen him at.

And tee’s awful games against Memphis, etc? We should have won a NC in 99 but coaching and lazy players killed us
